The problem with this is that you can get the meter free (all glucose meters are free from the companies) but you will need to get the test strips on prescription. If Contour strips are not on your local CCG formulary your GP is not obliged to prescribe them. Test strips are expensive and as the NHS has a limited budget the GPs have an agreed meter and test strips for each area. The one that is agreed will be a cost effective choice. If Contour test strips are a lot more expensive your GP can refuse to prescribe them and ask you to buy them yourself0
