I wouldn't bother about the TV stations, as I always record & can forward through adverts - but Radio 4 is worth every penny.

I went 'Freeview' I just wish that the broadcasters would also take thier own advice and go 'Freeview' If the weather gets hot or we have Thunder storms I have to revert to the old TV system soon to be phased out.
My freeview reception is intermittent, sometime very good and often hopeless.
I also bought a DAB radio. Talksport and most commercial stations are very good to good but sadly Talksport is a load of rubbish with excellent reception, on the other hand BBC programms have some very good content but again with unreliable reception. I do get a lot of continental stations, all I want is the service that I pay for.
I live in East Kent 70 miles from london so I would have thought that this area should be a good reception but sadly it is not.
The sooner the BBC goes commercial the better and then the licence fee abolished. BBC2 should run as a Public Service Broadcaster funded by the commercial broadcasters, public service advertisements such as road safety and Voluntary donations. and I type Radio 4 news at 9am has failed. The BBC aint what it was!!

I think it is a disgrace that we have to pay for a service which is not only broadcast in this country but many more that do not pay for it. Somewhere, sometime I am sure it must/will be illegal to charge someone for a service they do not want. All i get is the basic four channels and yet i pay as if i had all the bbc channels.

It is also a huge price to pay for a licence, especially when you are unemployed.

If i could get bbc removed from my tellybox and not pay for the licence i surely would.

I agree £135.50 is a lot of money especially if you don't watch BBC!

The thing I hate with the licence fee is the bully boy tactics with the collection. They treat you as guilty before knowing anything about you. If you don't have a licence they're on your back straight away even though you may not even have a tV - they just assume everyone has a TV.

The worst thing is it is the only company I know that arranges collection by DDM but you have to pay 6 months in advance for the next year's TV licence! So each year your paying the current year plus some of the next year! I refuse to pay by DDM (even though all my bills are paid by DDM) and save a monthly amount and pay by credit card for the year. It is disgraceful.

I have to say that I am not adverse to paying a TV Licence fee. However, I am DISGUSTED by the fact that they assume that every house has a TV. We did not for several years and got continually harrassed and even after an inspector visited to check up on us we still got letters which were downright rude! I am totally disgusted by the system.

Why do they not just assume everyone has a car and automatically charge everyone for road tax?

This is a tired old brand that would have gone out of business years ago in the open market.

Good TV comes from America and Channel 4.

If I wanted to give money to Guardian reading, middle class, Lefties I'd just buy the Guardian and subscribe to the Socialist Worker.

    Its an appauling company, self-important, poor quality, lost in its own 60's Socialist time-warp. Anti-American, anti-Israel, anti-Tory, anti-British, pro-terrorist.

The worst thing is the BBC's laughable propaganda that it is impartian and for the public good. It serves the Left.

I respect anyone on the Left who has an intelligent opinion, I just don't want to pay their wages.

Thatcher freed this country from many evils, Union madness, Socialism, and old Labour.. if only she'd stuck the knife in this disgusting old monstrosity this country would be better off.

I watch relatively little TV but do think the licence fee is worth it for Radio 4, Doctor Who, Planet Earth, and a few other BBC delights. We have FreeSat (our terrestrial signal was awful) but rarely watch commercial channels - the quality is just not as high.
    Have I said something useful?

The TV licence works out at a paltry 40p a day. My newspaper bill (I have just a daily paper and Radio Times delivered) costs me over £400 a year, so the fact that I can watch programmes like "Coast", "Doctor Who", "Planet Earth", "Mock The Week", "Have I Got News For You", "Newsnight", "The Office", "Spooks" etc. etc. etc. makes me think I'm getting quite a bargain.

So the government force us to pay for BBC, and the BCC produces loads of news

.... does anyone else think the government has a certain amount of control on what is broadcast?

The poll like every other one we've seen shows the majority don't want this TV Licence. As of this post 1497 voted no and 795 voted yes.

It always comes down to the same thing which is the selfish & arrogant left want what they happen to enjoy paid for by the majority and the majority don’t get listened too.

I’ve not paid my BBC TV Licence for 18yrs and I know all to well they can’t touch me because I know they have no real power. The only people who do get into trouble tend to be the uninformed who speak to the BBC salespeople (SS) and even let them into the house which is something else they don’t have to do. It’s usually the single parents, low income families or pensioners (not 75 yet) who put food above the mighty BBC
