    MoneySavingExpert Insert May 16:

Hi everyone, it's well worth reading our fully researched Meerkat Movies trick blog for the full lowdown on this.

Thanks to lamp for posting! Back to the original post...

    ----

    Good morning all!

I enjoyed my first usage of the Meerkat Movies code last night at the cinema.

There has been some somewhat conservative comments regarding selecting of insurance to use this offer. I just thought I'd share how I got my policy...

You are eligible for Meerkat Movies with single travel insurance policies, so I purchased a short trip one to Europe, and for under £5, I have 12 months of Meerkat Movies. Bargain.

I don't know how long that will last before the threshold is raised though.

    Best of luck!

    Lou

Hi. I've found that this is badly researched advice from Deal Hunters. I got Travel insurance for £2.03 but It wont validate it. And when I looked at the terms and conditions, it CLEARLY says that Travel Insurance is one of the purchases that they WONT accept.
This has been terrible advice that has wasted mine and many other people's money.
Did MSE Deal Hunters get a nice kick back from Compare The Market for tricking so many people into wasting their money or are the researchers just incompetent?

5.1.1 still lists Travel insurance as a qualifying purchase, although I believe travel insurance has been taken off elsewhere as of yesterday.

Many have purchased and used this deal successfully- there is a huge thread on hukd.

The purchases are taking up to 3 days to verify on the CtM system, it is not instant.

Lastly, loophole deals like this are always subject to change, never guaranteed, and if you're coming in late then it's a real gamble.

What products qualify for the 2 for 1 cinema tickets?
To qualify for MEERKAT MOVIES membership, you need to purchase one of the following products via comparethemarket.com: car, motorcycle, home, van, pet, landlord, life, home/content or travel insurance. You can also qualify by taking out a credit card or loan or switch energy, digital TV or broadband supplier.

You were probably looking at the wrong T&C's. The T&C's you were looking at were maybe the ones for the free toys, which does not include travel insurance.

Can you not see the people above who have successfully obtained the offer with the £2.03 travel insurance.

My activation won't work either, I have emailed CTM and they have replied that it can take 48hrs for the code to work once they have received details back from the insurer.

    Still Doesn't Work.
So far there is nothing to apologise for.
The terms and conditions via the app differ from this, by showing that travel insurance is not one of the listed accepted purchases.
The app will not validate after purchasing from ERV and entering the policy number.
It either resets or I keep being told to enter a valid purchase or to try again.
I have contacted Compare The Market directly, so I will post their reply. But at present I stand by what I said. This Doesn't Work....

Worked for me, bought a policy for £2 odd (from ERV) and validated it via compare the market.
Can people stop loaning money/being a guarator to family/friends, it rarely ends well and you lose out as your money is gone or you get shafted with being a guarantor.

I'd say it's better than Orange Wednesdays - lower entry cost, no need to pay out 35p a text every time, works on Tuesday OR Wednesday, works in conjunction with Cineworld Bargain Tuesdays. Only thing that's missing is Pizza Express but there are plenty of alternatives.

Just got a days uk insurance for £2.75. Went with the cheapest and first on the list. However on trying to activate Meerkat Movies there are 3 drop down menus.

The first dropdown box says: Select your product

    Iíve put Travel Insurance

The second drop down box says: Select your brand

What do I put here? Travelinsurance.co.uk is not on the list

The third drop down box says: Your policy number

    Iíve put this in

Can anyone help? I hope I'm not the first to fail.

Damn my impatience! If only I'd waited (and read your reply). I booked another policy at £2.03 from a company that was on the drop down list. Oh well I guess you live and learn. On the plus side the app is now up and running and (without doing anything) has issued my first code and am onboard for the next 12 months. More spent than needed but after one visit I will have more than made my £4.78 back

Travel Insurance DOES work but there is a simpler and CHEAPER way - Take a credit card from CompareTheMarket - pick one that is zero fee and low limit - You're never going to use it but it means you get Meerkat Movies for FREE! (When the card comes through, activate and then cut it up!)

Just to add - I took an Amex BA card. Used it to pay everything I purchased for one month - then paid it off and cut it up. Not only did i get Meerkat Movies for free but I also got 3000 Avios!

    Fingers crossed
I have just bought two days travel insurance, single day seemed not available, and entered the details on the activation screen. However it keeps asking me to check the details. I see that Martin says it can take up to 48 hours. I hope that is for company's info to reach Meerkat and I will be able to activate the screen in the next day or two.

I see MSE have taken the credit in their article for lamp's post!

I bought travel insurance last Friday afternoon using Debenhams. On Monday morning it was over 48 hours and it still hadn't validated, so I dropped them an email. They replied within a few hours saying they had sorted it, and sure enough I can now generate the code.

I see central.fm hasn't been back with CTM's reply... if they only took a few hours to reply to me, surely they've replied by now!

Here was the response to my query:

    Dear Tripled,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

It's great to hear you're interested in Meerkat Movies!

I'm sorry youíre having trouble activating your Meerkat Movie membership.

Iíve had a look into this for you and Iím able to see your purchase.

Iím happy to say that Iíve been able to create your Meerkat Movie membership for you. Once you go back into your Meerkat Movies App, you should now be able to activate your Meerkat Movie Membership.

You may need to log out and log back into your App to ensure it recognises the changes we have made.

I hope this helps, and I hope you enjoy your Meerkat Movie experience.

    Kind regards

"Well, weíve come up with a jolly little wheeze to manipulate Meerkat Movies and get it for virtually nowt. Simples!"

A bit disingenuous from MSE as this offer has been on HDUK for 2 weeks.

I've has the same issue Quinten so have just sent a query to CTM customer services to flag this. The link KxMx posted about qualifying purchases does include travel insurance but I also was told when trying to activate that the travel insurance doesn't qualify. i'll update when I hear more...

Does anyone know if the 2 for 1 would work with a Cineworld unlimited card? The Orange Wednesday offer did so in theory no cost on the day of the trip, just the DD for the Unlimited card.

    TIA
