So the finish line is in sight, we have paid £50k off a total debt of £58k:j.
I have 4 credit card debts, some going back to 1999.
Should I be asking for a CCA?
I can also lay my hands on £2k if I can demonstrate that it will offer me a substantial saving (family loan).
So in theory if some of the companies play ball I might be able to get some reasonable discounts, or am I just getting my hopes up.
If you have similar experience I would appreciate some advice.
Thanks in advance.

Bit of an update, I rang my creditors to make sure I was sending my CCA request to the correct address etc, somehow I got into a conversation with Lowell and negotiated a 60% discount off my amount owing to settle the account. Result, they sent me paperwork by email and I settled today.in all fairness they were superb, even offered me a payment plan to pay off the reduced settlement figure.
Barclaycard are usual barclaycard, so have to see what comes back from them, Wescott told me no need to write for the CCAs, they will request on the basis of my phone call.
Made 2 offers to Link who are due to get back to me on Monday.
So all positive at the moment.0 -
Hi Decked
Do you think lowell never had the proper paper work regarding your CCA request? If so you may have got more of a discount

Hi Max,
Yes, the thought did cross my mind, but this was probably my most recent debt, perhaps taken out 6 years ago, therefore more likely that they would have the CCA.
I also had the funds available to clear it, so from my point of view, I was happy that they took my offer, my theory was to pitch something sensible and in my mind, fair.
In my in box this morning I have an email confirming that once the payment has cleared, my account will be closed. That in itself is a psychological boost.
I hadn't mentioned that Wescott offered me a discount of £200 off a £1700 debt. I explained that I couldn't afford that and we will wait for the CCA.
I am paying £1300 per month off these debts with Stepchange, so in theory should be done at the end of the year, but that does mean some of the creditors are getting say £300 per month off a £2000 debt, so they probably don't see any point in offering a discount.
I think I will finish with Stechange next week to give me a bit more flexibility responding to final offers.
That said, Stepchange have got me to where I am today, by using them we have trained or rather retrained ourselves to budget and to be honest, our budgets with Stechange are on the generous side, but we are fortunate that we are able to still pay a considerable amount that our creditors. ( that hasn't always been the case, we are currently paying more than double what we used to)
Sorry, gone off thread a but there, let's see what next week brings.0 -
Lowell is a specialist debt buyer.
They do not obtain credit agreements (or copies of credit agreements) on sale of a debt, they dont hold any credit agreements at all, the paperwork always stays with the original creditor, thats why they have to request it from them.
Your OC may of been able to comply, they may not, we shall never know, you got a good deal, so you should be happy, but in future, i would always CCA first.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Hi Decked
Well done on being so close to being debt free, it must be a great feeling for you, can you please update us how you get on with westcot as 2 of my 7 creditors are them, well done again

Max,
Thanks Max, yes I am feeling really upbeat at the moment and yes of course, I'll publish the goings on, good or bad through to conclusion.0 -
Couple of things, firstly I am suprised at how little the people I speak to at DCAs know about the CCA. In fact I have spoken to 4 of my creditors who did not know what a CCA was and they had to refer it to somebody else.
Secondly, the individuals I have spoken to at Link, Wescott and Lowell have all been really nice to deal with.
Finally, I received a counter offer from Link today, I had offered just over 50% to settle 2 debts, they counter offered with 75% which I can't afford and I have told them I will request a CCA First.
Not expecting any more updates for a few weeks as I will have to wait for the CCAs to come back (or more hopefully) not come back.0
