Saving for a house to call home..

Hi :hello:

I've had a saving's diary before but due to ill health and lots of changes I fell behind on posting and neglected it

So here I am starting a fresh with lots of motivation to spur me on to save all my pennies to have a house to call home...

So here's a little about me - I'm twenty two, live with my mum, dad and two dogs. I'm currently training to be a childcare practitioner by doing an apprenticeship (I work full time and go to college one morning a week) I absolutely love it but the pay is ridiculous!Once qualified I'll be on a proper wage but that's not until May '16 but if I complete more work hopefully I can bring that date forward!

My aim is to have enough money to be able to buy a house with my fianc!, then to be able to save up for a wedding and start a family without getting into any debt. I'm hoping I can learn some money saving tips and tricks that will benefit me now and in the future when there's a mortgage to pay.

Currently I've already got £3535 saved as in my previous job I managed to save quite a bit each month. I tend to sell quite a lot on eBay, I also do surveys on one poll and opinion world (I've not been able to cash out yet but I'm sticking at it) I've got two slummy jars as well for loose change.

Lets get down to the nitty gritty now - It's 7 months till Christmas! I'm actually quite organised with this as when I was in full time work I managed to buy lots of presents in the sales so I won't have much to buy when it gets closer. I've got a few birthdays coming up throughout the year but I've sorted most already. Just need to carry on saving in between.

Today's been quite a spendy day - bought myself a mini laptop, case and memory card for my phone came to just over £200 but it's for college work etc so it was acceptable as the one my dad bought me is terribly slow and he wouldn't trade it in or get a new one for me.

It's pay day on Friday so I can organise and budget for the upcoming month.

I've waffled on enough now - feel free to give me tips etc.

Welcome Helen, sounds like we have a lot in common! I started my second attempt at a savings account yesterday, work in childcare and live with my parents.

I'm working it out as I go along so can't offer many tips except look into changing your bank account. I'm getting paid £125 to switch to Halifax and many other accounts offer decent interest, especially if you pay in your wages.

Yes it does sound like we have a lot in common lol :rotfl: I'm already with Halifax and get yearly interest on an ISA with my savings in and then I get cashback extras with my current account. It's something I'll probably look in to in the future though

I like to be as organised as possible lol - I'm just looking forward to having extra money in the festive season instead of being skint.

So today has been a NSD

I received a letter from Halifax to say the interest on my ISA is going to be 0.25% so I will be looking into changing that as I want to gain as much interest as possible. Any ideas would good!

I've got twenty eight items finishing on eBay tomorrow morning/afternoon - five of them are already sold and nine of them have watchers on them so hopefully they will produce a few more sales. Just done a few more surveys on opinion world and one poll but I'm still no closer to cashing out

Off to finish watching Britain's got talent whilst resting my aching muscles after a gym session with my personal trainer aka my beautiful fianc!! :heart2:

So last night I ended up elbow deep in cardboard, parcel tape and eBay addresses (all signs of lots of eBay sales) I managed to sell 7 items (2 to one person) and made £75.10! All were sent off today so that's one less thing to worry about

(love it when buyers pay fast) Automatic relist is still on for some items so that's good but need an offer or monthly amount to list other unsold items.

Yesterday was another NSD - it's easy to not spend when your waiting to get paid :rotfl: Today's only spend was for eBay parcels to be sent off (£32.68) but this was paid for by the buyers really so I'm classing today as a NSD

Payday tomorrow! :j I can budget for the month and list my monthly targets once I have my wages paid into the bank.

Never managed to get on here yesterday I was too tired after work and college. It was payday but it was a bit of a spendy day too but all was acceptable. Spent £108.40 on 2 bottle's of aftershave (one for dad for Father's day and one for OH's Christmas present - was able to get 10% off both of these plus I had a £5 off voucher and double points which I used twice then I also gain 800 points from using two other vouchers for 350 points and 450 points. So I saved a total of £16.05 altogether

) Also bought my multivitamins, glucosamine and toiletries (got the supplements on 3 for 2 and had an offer for 75p off the toiletries - it didn't acknowledge the 75p off so after speaking to a member of staff the points were added to my card

saved a total of £2.98 on these too!

Got to 40% complete on my college work yesterday too so I'm happy with that my aim is to get to 50% by the end of June which is doable as I have an observation in work on Wednesday so I'm on track for that.

Been a busy day today - got an offer on eBay to list 100 items for free so I've relisted all my unsold items and still have 60 plus items to list before midnight on the 1st so i'll be listing more items tomorrow and Monday (determined to take full advantage of it to gain money). My nan gave me a few things to sell as she doesn't want them so fingers crossed they sell, I also set a sideboard up for her today and she gave me £20 for doing it. Spent £45 on protein stuff for OH's birthday on Wednesday so that was budgeted for and it's something he wants

Also bought a lucky dip on tonight's lottery and thunderball for tonight which I've not done in ages so hopefully the luck will be with me and I'll win a few quid!

Done a few more surveys I'm now up to £25.30 on one poll and 300 points on opinion world (going to keep at it and try to do surveys as soon as they come through) After all the points I gained yesterday I now have £13.82 on my boots card but I'm going to save them up for when I need stuff.

Bills for the month consist of:

Rent to mum and dad - £100 (paid this yesterday)
Gym membership - £14.99 (due to be paid 14th)
Phone bill - £38.19 (due to be paid 8th)
4 weekly saver bus pass - £52.50 (due to get next weekend)

All above bills are the same each month they don't change

Right that's enough rambling on, need to remember to post each day, so I'm not posting massively each day. Time to watch Ninja warrior UK final and carry on listing on eBay!

Good evening diary!

Well today has been a NSD as I've only been out once and that was to pick up 2 banana boxes from Morrisons (which are free

) Been listing items on eBay all day still got 49 items to list from the 100 item offer they sent yesterday but that doesn't expire until midnight tomorrow so fingers crossed I can crack on with more of it and take full advantage of it as it's all free

Got a total of 70 items listed so far!

Managed to have a sort out today and got rid of some old paperwork, organised my drawers, wardrobe and also checked what was in my stockpile and I should be okay for a few months with that

Also earnt another 300 points on opinion world so only need 400 more to cash out! I've also bulk made my lunches for work so there's no temptation to go to the shop.

OH's birthday on Wednesday but bought his present yesterday which he's already got and I've already got his card. Bought him a card and present for his little girl to give him but it only cost £2.24 altogether.

Right I'm off to crack on with more eBay listing.

Evening diary!

Not posted for a few days as I've been too exhausted from work and the gym. Monday and Tuesday were both NSD's apart from 20p each day for a locker in the gym but it was budgeted for

Today has been a bit of a spendy day as it's OH's birthday - we went for a carvery but we had a 2 for £6.50 voucher so that was for the meal and pudding each then plus drinks totalled £17.85 which I was quite happy with!

Got lots of watchers on eBay - so I'm hoping for a few sales (nothing finishes until this weekend though) Had my observation for college in work and it went well got to 43% completion! Got some new work set by my assessor (doesn't need to be done until the 29th July but I prefer to get it done quicker)

Right I'm off to crack on with some college work

Hi,

Never managed to post yesterday as was exhausted after the gym and wasn't feeling too good. Yesterday was a NSD apart from 20p for a locker at the gym which was budgeted for.

Woke up this morning feel rough as anything _pale_ managed to drag myself up for college but started to feel worse (my teacher was going to send me home) so I called work headed home and called the doctors. Fell asleep at home but when I woke up I nearly collapsed in the bathroom and ended up vomiting everywhere

was in the doctors for all of two minutes to be told I've got a viral infection :mad: sick of doctors fobbing me off with that!

Managed to get to 47% completed for college which I'm happy with seems I feel like death. Got to £26.70 on one poll, got screened out of every survey on opinion world apart from one for 50 points which I'm not happy with :mad:

Off to do some more research on college work.
