changing locks on double glazing door.

hi,

without the boring details, someone I dont want to have has got hold of key to my double glazed french doors. we took the handle off thinking it would be a straight forward job to replace the barrel but cant see how to get the barrel out without taking the door apart.
Is this a job for a locksmth or am I missng something?

Do you have a key? Is it one of those euro cylinder locks? If so, it's a simple matter of opening the door, there should be a screw on the side holding the lock in place, just undo that and replace with same size.

Hi, ..... there's a screw on the door frame (the bit under the catch thingy), then gently pop the barell out, jobs a goodun.

Or just leave the key in on your side when locked ,then another key won't be able to open it from the outside.

I'm probably jumping in on someone elses question, but I'm having problems too. I want to replace both locks on my french doors. I have changed the lock as described above by accessing from the screw on the side of the door next to the lock. But the other door has a long plastic strip which the other door closes to, and this is covering the screw to remove the barrel. Can anyone tell me how to remove this strip before I attack it usually ending in tears.

You will have to remove the long strip to access the retaining screw. they are held on a number of ways so you may have to work it out or call in a locksmith. if you need help finding one PM me.
