Car warranty claim problem

Hi, we bought a second hand car from a dealer which included a 6 month warranty.

Two and a half months into the warranty the car broke down whilst on holiday, as our only means of transport we had to have the repair done (including payment) before returning home as the car could not be safely used.

Once we had returned we contacted the dealer who, eventually, sent us a warranty certificate and a link to the company that provided the warranty itself. A claim was made and they rejected it, as the repairs were carried outside of the claims procedure (claim to be processed prior to repairs). Practically this was not possible due to us being 300 miles from home at the time of the brakedown.

Do we have any recourse to get our money back?

Thanks

You didn't have breakdown cover that would have got you and the car back home?

I think you have got little chance of reclaiming anything at all.

Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear.

You could not phone the warranty company because you were 300 miles away?

If you had contacted them first they may have authorised the repair at the garage you were at.

It should have just taken a few phone calls to sort.

Probably wear and tear item so wouldn't be covered.

So you didn't get the warranty paperwork at the time of purchase, or soon after - and didn't think to chase it until you needed it?

And does it state that in the warranty documentation? It almost certainly will.

Think of it from the warranty provider's point of view - otherwise, it'd be carte blanche for fraudulent claims, wouldn't it? Quickly knock up a realistic invoice, or get a mate's garage to do one, and bingo!

No telephone at the garage, to ring the warranty provider or the garage you bought it from?

I think you know the answer, don't you?
