Reclaiming money back from various payday loan companies 17th Jul 15 at 9:32 PM
Hi all just wanted to share some good news regarding payday loan companies.....
From early 2011 until mid 2014 I too was caught in the payday loan trap, all my own fault may I add, I borrow the money and in the end paid every penny back, would estimate 15000 over the years maybe 20.
Early this year I saw all the news regarding payday loan companies and irresponsible lending, unfair interest etc etc etc, so I decided to have ago and try and get a few quid back myself.
So far I have been in contact with 5 of the companies I was lending multiple loans from at the same time with many roll overs too, I have received 4 apologies and offers totalling over 5000 and the other complaint is now with the ombudsman.
I never expected these amounts back but if you too were in the same situation, get all your facts in order and get complaining, from the initial email sent I had the money back within 8 weeks.

    Myjar refund
Hi everyone, today I got an email from Myjar asking me to contact them to discuss my complaint (sent 27/9/17) I decided to ring them and got put through to the guy dealing with my complaint. He asked me to elaborate on why I felt the loan was unaffordable, so I described my situation and the fact I probably had 5 or 6 payday loans at that time and he agreed that they didn't carry out the appropriate checks. He then made an offer of a refund of interest and late charges on 5 loans (I only found one on my credit file for £300!!!) totalling £586!!. I thought that was a little too easy so I suggested that if I went to FOS I could get that plus interest, so would he settle for £700 as a F&F he confirmed that he could do that and would send an email by end of business tomorrow to confirm my bank details
    Awesome Result
Just as aside what he did say is that they are allowed to give discretionary payments over and above the loan interest and charges but if the FOS benchmark of 8% per annum interest is applied they must deduct 20% tax, so it's probably best to try and nudge them up a little but not use the 8% interest as you may lose out.

    Myjar refund update
Got an email at 9.19 this morning replied straight away that I accepted the F&F offer, got another email just after 1pm to say the refund was processed, checked my bank and there it was! I have to say I am impressed with their response all round!

    SafetyNet Credit result!!
Another unexpected surprise today, an email from SNC to say that they had investigated my complaint.
They concluded that my initial loan was affordable, but the increase in the credit limit wasn't and this lead to financial difficulty. They have offered to refund interest from Oct 2016 until Oct 2017 (when they took a full repayment and reduced my credit limit to 0!)
Refund of £1047 including 8% interest and tax deducted.

That's £2167 in the past 4 weeks from 4 lenders! 10 to go

Hello everyone, sent a message week or so ago but no luck with a reply, I have had reply from adjudicator regarding 2 of my loans and that they think the company were not wrong to lend to me and if I disagree I need to send them explanation of why and then they will refer to ombudsman, any advice on what I can do with these, do I admit defeat or push for these to go to ombudsman?

    Hi
I was the same as you and I have complained to all of them, so far I have had one response where the remainder of my balance was removed and removed from my credit file, just waiting on the others to reply now.

Which companies, and how did you complain? There's a couple of good templates, I used one from debt camel, but you must personalise it so that it's relevant to the loan company you are complaining about. I have so far had 4 refunds from 14 letters sent on 27th September, a couple have written to say they will take the full 8 weeks.
If you need me to send you the template letter then let me know.

Hi everyone I have just come across this thread and thought I would look into this. Wonga automatically refunded me but I had paid a ridiculous amount back already - the refund just cleared the dmp to them - but could I do anything there? Also I had loans with payday express and quickquid at the time, anything can be done? Many thanks

Payday Express: have until November 21st to respond to me but apparently they are pretty slow to work with.
Quickquid: I originally complained about QQ over a year ago because I had been paying them a token amount and they wouldn't freeze interest, I wrote to them and got a pretty disappointing response so I sent it on to the FOS, the FOS weren't quite as busy with PDL complaints then so I got an almost immediate response. Basically I ended up with a refund of £3916.93 (which was very much welcomed and needed).
In short if you had more than one pay day loan at a time they shouldn't really have lent to you. Send off the complaint and see how you get on, you've nothing to lose.
I've also had a refund of £722.29 yesterday from Black Horse car finance for unfair charges and late fees!

After my recent success with Wonga & QQ I'm going to complain to MyJar, Minicredit and 247 Moneybox this week - it's so easy to send the letter off I literally have nothing to lose!

The 8 weeks for SafetyNet Credit to get back to me was up last Thursday and I didn't realise, I've sent them an email this morning saying if I haven't had a response by COP Wednesday I'll be referring to FOS first thing Thursday morning. Watch this space!

Reply from SNC after I said they were going straight to the FOS, they deny that my loan was unaffordable, have come up with some random figures that apparently went into my account regularly to boost my income (possibly the random amounts between £10-£150 which was either my mum or DH bailing me out!) They also said they carried out weekly assessments, but if they had they would have seen my multiple other payday loans over the course of my account.

So off to the FOS they go. I knew I'd get a fight with at least one of them!

Hi everyone, what an interesting read and want to look into this further.
I had several payday loans from 2011-216.
Managed to look at my old statements; shocking to see that I borrowed over £11k from Wonga, over the years; and paid back approx £15k !!
There was also a pattern in the dates I borrowed every month. Feel so ashamed after seeing it in black and white, also had at least 5 other payday loans too so god knows how much they will be
Am with StepChange DMP which is great.. will never take out a pdl again !
What are the chances of a claim ? (Thanks again Baggybreeches for the pm)

So I randomly came across this thread while looking at reclaiming payday loans and I just cant believe it..

    Between 2009 and 2012 I used 4 payday loan company's every month.. I paid on average £500 intrest a month for 3 years ...

I was only 19 at the time and it ruined around 5 years of my life. My family werent in a situation to help me. I was already in a trust deed. I got the first loan to go on a 'cheap last minute holiday' with friends, as you do at 19.. and it got out of control so fast. I was struggling to pay my trust deed payments because of how much intrest i was paying.

In 2012 I was involved in what i would consider a very bad car accident (still have the sore back today to prove it) I recieved compensation of £2500 for that accident and that is the only reason my ordeal with these compains stopped. I never looked back and now i am horrified that I ended up down that path so many years ago..

I've worked out I paid over £18,000 in intrest.. I have the bank statements to prove it..

That makes me want to be sick in my mouth right now.. I could have had the most amazing years of my life or a big deposit for a house, if these companies had not sucked me in..

So im sitting at 1am.. and ive sent emails off to all of them,..

I havent even bothered asking for statements from them for figures... Ive just sent of the generic email saying i want to lodge the complaint and want my money back.. added in from the get go, about if they dont pay up the FSO will add on another £550 WHEN not if, i send it to them..

Waiting with all my fingers and toes crossed to hear back..

    Lenders:

Chegue Centre: by far the largest.. paid them around 9k

    Wonga

I have 2 against PDUK and Wonga, both currently with the FOS as they disputed my claim. PDUK are not offering loans anymore, but don't let this worry you as they are still working through the complaints anyway, and have added more people to deal with them.

Do expect the 8 week wait and at 8 week + 1 day, forward on the FOS even if they ask for more time.

You may get a good response when you are in the FOS queue, if not, you will be further up the queue
