Income Tax

Hi clever peeps,
Hope someone can help me. I recently claimed my husbands unused marriage allowance tax. They accepted my claim but I've been waiting now for 6 months. Can anyone tell me how long one normally has to wait for it?
Many thanks for any info

Adjustments are usually made via tax code. Have you had a tax code notification?

I claimed my wife's some time ago. Can't remember how long it took but certainly nothing like 6 months, nearer 6 weeks I would think.
  • Thank you all for your help. i am retired so not sure if or when i will receive a new tax code. Maybe I should contact Income tax and find out if they have forgotten us.
    Grateful, thanks

I would suggest that it might well be worth contacting them. I'm self employed and allocated some of my allowance to my husband when filling in my tax return for 2015/2016 in January this year. After a number of weeks, nothing had shown up in his tax code, so as he had another query, he mentioned this too and for some reason it hadn't reached his tax account. They processed it manually in some manner and he got a cheque for a refund for the amount of tax concerned around May (£220-ish I think).

As I'm self-employed, my tax return is a year behind his tax code, so he was told this would be how it would happen for us. I've just done my 2016/17 return, so I hope the same might happen again, even though everything I've read suggests it's managed as an adjustment to the spouse's tax code - but my allowance will always be for the previous tax year.
