Gosh sound like you've had a super busy weekend! Shame about the dream house but what's meant to be, will be as they say!! We love The Walking Dead in our house, would like to see more of Daryl though! ;)

Forgive me MFWs, for I have sinned. I caved in last night and we got a takeaway, and I bought some slippers and PJs that I don't need. The takeaway wasn't strictly needed but after a busy and stressful day at work I was shattered so when DH suggested we get a takeaway I didn't put up much of a fight. I'm taking the slippers and PJs back today. That was a moment of weakness as they're Me to You / Tatty Teddy, my favourite. However, as they're not needed, they're going back. Thinking about how hard I have to work to earn £26 through working or surveys or fleabay sales - it just isn't worth it.
Standing order for NS&I bonds has now been changed to pay day so they will be entered into the draw sooner. Fingers crossed for a win! :)
I'm taking my Grandma shopping tonight so I will make a quick tea tonight - maybe some oven pizzas. I might even be good and accompany it with some rabbit food (I find salad as a side so uninspiring. It can be lovely as the main feature with a chicken breast and a couple of small potatoes, radish, celery, peppers etc.)
Our car insurance is due for renewal in April and MSE has been shouting about price hikes recently so I'm going to start investigating a better deal for us. I recently changed energy supplier too as the collective fix deal came to an end. Looks like our energy is going to be quite a bit more expensive for a while (it was a really good fix deal!).
I'll be venturing to the Post Office today as well. Our lovely friends sent a care package up for us because we've been so ill - all of their favourite snacks that they think we'd love too and a tote bag. So thoughtful of them. DH and I also need to send some cards to our previous manager who recently took voluntary redundancy so she could spend more time with her DH who is very ill. She was a fab manager and hired both of us into the same team, even though some managers would be put off taking a married couple into the team. DH has known her for years and she's mentored him pretty much since he finished the Graduate programme so has a LOT to thank her for and she gave me a great opportunity to move across into a new area of the company and was a great manager to me as well in that time.

I'm glad someone else on here like TWD too... and yes, more Daryl would be appreciated! Although, shamefully, I quite like Negan.
You're right, what is meant to be will be and I think right now we're meant to stay put and overpay on the mortgage so that when the time is right we will have a bigger deposit and will be a more comfortable position to move :)

The care package from your friends sounds lovely - how kind of them! And your former manager sounds like she's been a real influence for good in your lives, so I'm sure she'll be glad to hear from you both.

It's always a sobering thought to work out how long it would take to buy something (especially from surveys) - well done for taking the PJs back :)

Thanks TMV :) I teared up a bit when I opened the care package. I sent really nice thank you cards yesterday to my friends and DH and I wrote a card each to our previous manager. They should receive them today and hopefully it will make them smile!

Well, I took the PJs and slippers back last night. I had to go to 2 different Tescos as the first one said they can't accept clothes returns as they don't sell them there - fair enough. Even with the added hassle, it was worth it. I felt like I'd made the right decision and it's spending the odd bits here and there on things we don't need that ends up with us asking where all of our money has gone at the end of the month!

I took my Grandma shopping last night. I've only been out a handful of times since I got ill and this was the first time doing anything that took any real stamina (pushing her wheelchair, bending, lifting, reaching etc.) and boy was I tired afterwards! After putting the shopping away I made a nice cup of tea for us both and my mum had bought my Grandma and me some cakes from Patisserie Valerie so we had that with our well deserved break. It felt good to finally sit down, and although I was tired, I slept well last night :) Grandma very kindly gave me £35, which again I tried to avoid (she took out a £20 and I tried to stop her at that but she wasn't having any of it). I thanked her, and I am grateful for the money but I can't help but feel guilty; I'd take her for free. Anyway, I shall accept it in the spirit it was meant and add it to the OP pot.

I'm thinking of ways to help mum sell the rest of their vinyl records, that hopefully don't involve posting them. Not only are they heavy, I can imagine they wouldn't necessarily arrive in one piece. She took some down to a record store in town and got a fair price, but she took some more valuable ones down and the store owner valued them this time. He was a bit of a young know it all and was giving mum a sob story about his overheads etc. anyway he offered her 1/3 of what she (very conservatively) thought they would offer, bearing in mind last time they offered her half of what they were going for on eBay so her estimate was based off that kind of logic. He was basic taking the mick - big time. Anyway she said she'd rather give them away than let a spiv like that try and take advantage. I'm thinking Gumtree and Facebook sales might be the best way to sell them for a fair price without postage, but if anyone has any ideas or experience with this kind of thing I would love to hear it.

DH is working in Bracknell the next couple of days so his meals are mainly covered by work. For some reason they don't pay lunch, which seems harsh to me as we normally make lunch at home but he doesn't have facilities when travelling so he has to pay for a meal in the canteen or buy something from a shop/cafe, which isn't always easy depending on where he is working. That ends up costing him quite a bit more than my homemade sandwiches or soup etc would so it's extra expense incurred by them which to me seems like they should pick up the tab, but it's not massive so it's not the end of the world. At least they pay our salary and the rest of his expenses.

I just really giggled when I read about your sin being buying a takeaway, PJs and slippers!! It's like the nicest sin! lol! I had a takeaway last night and it was my favourite indian that does cheese and onion naan bread! It was AMAZING! You've got to enjoy the little things in life!

I too like Negan but I think it's mainly because I loved Jeffery Dean Morgan when he was in Greys Anatomy ages go so he can do no wrong in my eyes!

Good on your mum for not taking any nonsense from that record shop! Is there an auction house near you at all that would be able to auction them off for her? I'm not sure how much it might cost but I think they put items on the internet first to generate interest before the auction takes place so they are more likely to sell. x

Well, we just had the letter from the BTL mortgage through... seems that the numbers don't balance up for some reason. Based on the figure they gave me when I rang up to check the mortgage amount, the extra £15.05 should have taken us to £127,300 but the current balance on our letter is £127,298.96 :) Better to be over than under I suppose, but I like a nice rounded number so an extra payment of £8.96 has been made to bring it to £127,290 - I can see this exercise bringing out my OCD tendencies!

I've opened a regular saver with FD as the interest rate is at 5% for 12 months - pretty good considering the usual low rates at the moment. The plan is to save £300 a month, which is the max allowed, and then when the interest is paid at the end of the 12 months I can either pay off the credit card in one lump sum or keep saving until the 0% rate ends in the hopes of making a little bit more interest. I have a long time to think about it so I'll just let it build up and decide later.

I've had quite a few NSDs recently, although I did buy myself a plant at the supermarket the other day and DH and I had fish & chips for lunch... still not bad by our usual pre-MFW standards :)

BIL was round yesterday and he fixed an issue with my PC, and got the speakers working again (some trickery with drivers and OS versions - I barely understood a word he was saying but it is very handy to have a techie in the family!). I can finally do surveys that require sound! I reckon in the past 2 weeks I've missed out on about 5 surveys because they required sound, so it will be nice to be able to do them all going forwards.

We also had friends round yesterday for lunch and to play some board games. We made pasta with salad and garlic bread for lunch. We all enjoyed it and by not going out we all saved money and had more time to play...win-win :)

Tea tonight is sausages from the freezer. As we had a large lunch we'll just have a sausage sandwich for tea. Not the healthiest, but we're both feeling a bit poorly and tired still so we want something quick and easy.

All surveys up-to-date. I'm on £7/£50 on YouGov (I rarely get surveys for this so it is slow progress) and £15.85/£40 on OnePoll - so close to the half way mark! The Nectar surveys keep tricking points through to my Nectar card so the balance is slow creeping up on there too.

I got a £10 M&S voucher yesterday for giving feedback on my previous mortgage provider when I switched; not bad for a 5 minute phone conversation that I would have done anyway as I really wanted to let them know how they could improve (mainly having online banking facilities to check the mortgage amount and make payments!).

On the not so good front, just as I had almost recovered from my chest infection, I've caught a cold and have a streaming nose 24/7, bad cough and now the right hand side of my chest/rib cage is starting to hurt like it did on the left hand side before. I feel pretty rubbish so yesterday when DH said he fancied Burger King, I caved. Bit of a shame really as I couldn't taste anything anyway and it cost quite a bit more than a usual BK as the only one near us is at the local motorway services. I wasn't impressed afterwards that we'd managed £20 on one meal. Needless to say, even though I just wanted to go home and crawl into bed, I made DH drive us to the shop so we could get some food in so there is no excuse and I will feel more able to stay strong if he suggests a treat again. On the plus side, I haven't had much of an appetite recently and have lost 7lbs without trying. Silver lining and all that :D

Something I must get round to doing is checking out council tax reductions for having to look at an eyesore. My mum mentioned the other day that she thought you could get a reduction in council tax if you have to look at an eyesore and the house across the road has been a derelict, half demolished shell for months upon months. I don't know if it's still applicable (I imagine them closing any loopholes that allow people to pay less) but I'm going to investigate.
