We took little nephew to an adventure playground and all of us had a great time, clambering about, hiding in tunnels and walking tight ropes.
He told his granny that we had been to an adventurous playground. I think I prefer his version :), so appropriate.

Enjoyed a lovely walk in kielder - enough sun, a few sprinkles of rain and beautiful views on the way back to our temp base.

Morning all. Golly, its chilly out there today, I really must start thinking about winter clothes. I will put it off as long as possible. It seems as though it was only last week I got out my summer things.

I'm a bit worried about my old dog lodger today. She was sick after her dinner on Thursday and since then she hasn't eaten or drunk anything and just lies in her bed. I don't worry about the not eating, she will often go a day without food, but the not drinking is something new, I have put her bowl of water by her bed but it hasn't been touched. In a bit I'll ring her mum and get her to come down and take responsibility.
On the other hand, she did get up and bark yesterday evening when she heard a dog bark further up in the village so perhaps I shouldn't be so worried. We'll see.

Apart from that, I don't have any plans for today. If it doesn't warm up soon it will be a wrap up warm and knit sort of day. I will NOT put on any form of heating in September.

Monnagram, my abiding memory of childhood and of University digs is of being cold so nowadays I will put the heating on to prevent shivering! I don't have the house hot, but I will just take the chill off in daytime if necessary (not nec today) and have it warm in the evening. Happy to put on an extra layer first though! Just not prepared to wear a hat and gloves indoors!!

MMF007, I didn't have too much trouble as a student. Having been brought up in a badly insulated bungalow in the forties when coal was rationed and nobody had even heard of central heating, blankets were scarce and there was no rubber for hot water bottles, and we all huddled round whatever fire we could manage, with our shins scorching and our backs freezing, anything else seemed like paradise.

That was until I started teaching when I rented a bedsit on the top floor of a large house. Brown lino, a strip of coconut matting, a bed with one thin blanket and a one bar electric fire for heating. Then I really discovered what cold was. I have told before how the bottle of ink on my windowsill froze.
Since then I have tried very hard not to live in a cold house. .Not always successfully as my ex was only interested in his own comfort and used to turn all the heating off before he went out.
Anyway, at the moment I'm living on my own in this beautiful but much too large house, with a budget so tight I can hear it squeak, so I will be heating one room and donning coat and snowboots before making lightning dashes to bathroom and kitchen.

Old dog Millie was having me on. After I'd alerted DS2 and DIL and worried them, Millie pranced downstairs with a gleam in her eye. I put down a small dish of chicken which disappeared in one slurp. So.........end of drama. The fraud!

I've just read an article about what I should be looking for in my autumn wardrobe.
I don't know about you, but my Autumn wardrobe is basically my summer wardrobe give or take a cardi or two.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Yes, and your mum shouting, "Shut the door!" whenever you left the room!

MMF007 that one is engraved on our kids' brains!
I can still remember a coal fire and floors covered in linoleum, and windows that let in a force 10 from the north pole. And chilblains.

I remember having blue mottled legs from being scorched by the fire - not a good look!

I think my gp's referral to a specialist might have been overruled so set for a (polite) fight next week. Might have to suggest it as me wanting a second opinion and willing to pay for it.

I can remember my dad saying "put the wood in the hole" and as a junior school child in 1973-5 drying my hair after Sunday bathtime in front of the coal fire being told to move away from the hearth as I was taking all the heat :)
