SkyQ question...

I've just had SkyQ installed. I have an HDMI lead and a ethernet cable buried in the wall. The HDMI lead I have buried isn't strong enough to take the 4K feed so the picture jumps. We've had to put a 4K HDMI lead on the outside of the wall but it looks messy.

Does anyone if you can push a signal through the ethernet or is there any other solution or am I looking like pulling the plaster off the wall.....

Thanks in advance

You can get adapters to transmit HDMI via Cat5e/6 cables

Most only rated to to 1080p signals for around £40 mark
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Extender-Ethernet-connection-transmitter-compatible/dp/B01A0QYG4O

For 4K signals then the price jumps to nearly £180
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Extender--Full-Single-Cable--Sender/dp/B01HZDY7Y4

You might be able to find cheaper options.

Or pulling out the wires Inserting conduit and re plastering might be cheaper in the long run ;)

That's great, I'll explore those options and probably dig out the chisel!

    Appreciate it. Thanks

HDMI either works or it doesn't and there is no such thing as 4K HDMI.

If you're going to bury cables, you really should be putting them in some sort of conduit, preferably with a draw string.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Unfortunately there is a difference. HDMI wont work (properly) and you need 4k compatible cable

No there isn't, cable manufacturers would like you to think so.

You either have a faulty cable or something else is wrong.

Have you tried a new cable and does it fix the problem?

    Seems to already be answered.

Correct. I've put a "4K lead" and it works perfectly and tried two "standard" HDMI leads and it jumps.
  • From the same cnet link above...

Just because a cable is called high-speed, it doesn't mean it actually is. Some cheap HDMI cable manufacturers might just throw the label on a cable that can't actually handle the data or that can't handle the data over long distances. In this case, the cable won't work with 4K (this is true with 1080p as well, btw). This does not mean that all cheap HDMI cables don't work with 4K; it only means that cheap HDMI cable doesn't work with 4K. Get a different brand of HDMI cable, at the same price, and it will likely work.

Anyone saying all HDMI cables are all the same because it's 'digital', and that all HDMI cables are the same, is wrong. This thread is proof of that. Look up 'bandwidth'.
Nothing wrong with starting with a £1 HDMI cable, though...
