Hotels for the FA Cup Final

I am looking for a hotel for the FA Cup Final at Wembley next month. As expected prices are high, even at the budget hotels.

I am just wondering if anyone can suggest any cheaper options? We will be arriving at Kings Cross on the Sat morning and travelling home Sunday lunch time.

We don't mind staying a bit further away if this is practical, but obviously we are relying on public transport. Somebody mentioned Watford to us. Are there any other places we could have a look at? Don't know the area at all so I am struggling.

Thanks

What sort of price are you talking when you refer to a 'cheaper option' ?

You could get a hotel out at Watford Junction (I've heard the Holiday Inn Express is good), with a direct tube link in to Wembley, but on a cup final Saturday you'll still be looking at over £100 for the night

Just as cheap as possible really, having already spent a fortune going to the semi-final at the weekend we are on a bit of a budget. Maybe around £60-£70.

Travelodge in Barking (on district tube line)has vacancies for FA cup final Saturday currently £79. There are also other travelodges nearby which are slightly different prices. Hope this helps

The Travelodge at Uxbridge is currently £63 for Sat 17 May. About 25 min metropolitan tube journey from Wembley Park to Uxbridge (involving one change at Harrow on the Hill as the line branches there). The Travelodge is a few minutes walk from there. £8.90 for a zone 1-6 daily Travelcard for unlimited use on all buses and tubes in these London zones. You will need one for the Saturday and one for Sunday but works out cheaper than the single cash fare of £5.70 for travel from Kings Cross to Wembley and then £4.70 from Wembley to Uxbridge. .

Cricklewood Travelodge is £87 and you can get the Jubilee line from Wembley Park to Willesden Green (10 mins) and it is a 10 minute walk from there to The Travelodge or you can get the tube to Kilburn park and get a bus from outside there to the Travelodge (or 15 minute walk). There is also a direct train from Cricklewood to Kings Cross/St Pancras that takes 20 minutes and this station is a 5 min walk from the hotel. £8.90 for a daily Travelcard to use on London buses and tubes.

Old English Inns have a twin room for £80 at the Rickmansworth Long Island Hotel 15-20 minute direct journey on the metropolitan line from Wembley Park to Rickmansworth and the hotel is opposite the tube/train station. 45 minute direct journey from Rickmansworth to Kings Cross. £12.50 for a zones 1-7 daily travel card for unlimited use on all buses, tubes, LOndon overground in these zones.

There is also a Chiltern train that goes direct from Wembley Stadium station to High Wycombe and there are High wycombe central Premier inn rooms that night for £39. It looks to be a 10 minute walk from the train station to the hotel. It is a 30 minute direct journey but fares are more expensive at £10.80 for the single journey from Wembley and if you want to get back to London on the Sunday it would be £12.80 to Marylebone and then Bakerloo tube line to Baker street and then change onto the metropolitan line to Kings Cross (10 min journey time). You will need to also pay £4.70 for this single journey or pay £8.90 for a daily travelcard to travel around London.
