Conned by a Friend

The companies have stated that they don't do guarantor loans. I am waiting to speak to CAB and the solicitor. Just looking for other places to get advice
CAB are a waste of time - don't bother.
Is the solicitor one you are paying for yourself? Again, a waste of time (and money) at this point and not needed.
All you need to do is follow the advice I've given thus far, it really isn't difficult.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly, and I can move and merge threads there. Any views are mine and not the official line of moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I did receive letters but when I saw the company titles I just gave them to my friend. Yes I know, very stupidly didn't read them. She had been part of my life for 23 years, I was naive and I trusted every word she said.
I think this is going to be a huge problem; they wrote to you and you ignored it. Your inaction has caused them to lose their prime opportunity to reclaim their money, before it got transferred anywhere.

You can think it's fishy all you like, I would never do what she has done to me and those companies.
If I get in debt I sort it.
Also I would never post this on a public message board and ask for advice if I was out to con or if I was lying!!!:mad:0 -

your problem is you need to convince a court. and it does look fishy!2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000 -
If you know your 'friend' has a car, rents and works, have you tried talking to her? 23 years is a stupidly large time to then ruin a friend's life. Is it possible there was something in her life that made her so desperate she had to defraud the loan companies and lie to you? Is she also as naive to think she can get away with it?0

As far as the companies will be concerned, you applied for the loans. Payday Loan Companies don't ask for guarantors, a simple Google search when you received the money would have shown this. A court will find it hard to believe that you didn't know what was going on. Especially as it took you over a year to decide you'd been the victim of fraud ! The repayments would have been taken from your account too, what did you think was going on for all that time ?0

She probably can get away with it. The moment the money was received in OP's account she was responsible for it, regardless of who actually applied for the loan and exactly how it was obtained. Unfortunately, OP then decided to hand it over to her friend. I doubt the lender is going to take responsibility for that decision because they didn't make it.0
