Oil prices for 1000 litres on 1/4/05 at 10am. Prices were changing as I phoned. My previous post suggested Maxoldirect would match best price, when i phoned them they said that if I had phoned a half hour earlier they could have matched it but the price had just changed (couldnt get thru on fone anyway). I therefore went back to Penninsula who are a small company and I guessed they would not react as quickly to a price change as Maxol. Still a significant difference in the range of prices - £31 from highest to lowest price. And the rank order of the companies have changed since my last posting. I was also told by a number of companies that the prices are going up - in case you are thinking of ordering :)

    £283 Penninsula 91861515

Best thing is to ring around. Maxol DIRECT try to find out if you've ordered oil before from them and then quote you a high price. You get a better price from them if you tell them you are a new customer. They will bring the price down to match the best quote however, but it's a long drawn out process. Why can't they just quote you their best price and be done with it!!
Well, in january, maxol direct refused to match cheaperoil.com or even come close (they were almost £15 dearer for 500l) so they lost my custom to cheaperoil. must say, both me and my boyfriend have used cheaperoil.com and both times they delivered next day, no fuss (and I live in the middle of a row of terraces, my oil tank is raised 6ft off the ground and i have no ladder, AND i'm not there during the day so i must be their worst nightmare of a customer!) I mentioned it before, cheaperoil is a subsidiary of Nicholl Fuels, and gets delivered by their lorries (that's why the websites are so similar).

I was just wondering what experiences anyone else in NI has when ordering oil? Plus does anyone know what today's prices are?

To find out the latest prices simply look on
    https://www.cheaperoil.co.uk currently quoting £257 for 900 litres
    https://www.maxoldirect.com currently quoting £262 for 900 litres

Rose, why do you buy 500 litres? That is usually quite an expensive way of buying oil. There is a price break at 900 litres - used because most peoples tanks are about £1000 - £1200 litres.

Some people (like me) can't afford to pay the guts of £300 in one go. I prefer to break it into more manageable chunks. even if i do lose out on £20. i'm too busy saving money on other things to save for heating oil!

You don't have to pay in one go. I have an account with shell direct and pay £30 per month DD. When I need oil I simply phone around for the cheapest quote, then inform Shell direct what the best price is. They always match it so I always get the best price and I only pay the £30 each month.

I'm quite sure other firms would offer a similar service.
Plenty of mistakes, but no regrets. :)
