Holiday Booking

Hi
Not sure if correct section of forum - please move if need be.

Please help, my son wants to book his summer holiday, even though I won't be on the booking form or going with him can I pay £100 on my credit card for him as extra protection (we had booked our own last years holiday with Monarch).

Thanks

It depends what "extra protection" you are looking for.

In general, you won't benefit from S75 protection if you are paying on behalf of someone else. In this case, your son would be in contract with the holiday company whilst you would be the one in contract with the lender. The so-called "chain" is broken. So no cover.

Chargeback might still be available, though probably of less value in a situation such as this.

The most appropriate answer is to obtain travel insurance - and to do so as soon as you have booked.
  • How old is he and what are his financial circumstances?

    Hi
    Quick replies much appreciated.
He will get insurance as soon as he has booked.
He is full time employed and finances are good.
He is 21 but he doesn't want a credit card at the moment - hence maybe using ours.
His holiday is an ABTA one, he should be covered anyway.
Hadn't thought about the 'broken chain', makes sense now.

    Thanks again.

You say he doesn't want a credit card at this time but perhaps your post suggests he NEEDS one?
  • It might be a good idea for him to get A CC if going abroad in case of emergencies.
