First Anniversary First Post Rampant Recycler Hung up my suit!
CBC, In the last 6 months Mr Goldie has been referred twice by his normal dentist, to a specialist NHS 'minor oral surgery' dentist, and both times it was just injections, not anaesthetic,

I think there's been a lot of advances recently, so there's probably been a few changes since your teens.

    Don't be like my dad.

He had a tooth out in 1945, and it don't stop bleeding, so he went to the hospital to stop the bleeding.

It traumatised him so much he NEVER went back.

But his teeth started dropping out as he got older, and by the time he died in 2004, he barely had a tooth left!

It's much better to 'bite the billet' and get it done. When I'm in the dentists chair I think about cruises to take my mind off the rummaging in my mouth:rotfl:

Hope your mouth is settling down, KC

Morning! It's not bad, thanks - I'm still taking painkillers, just aspirin and paracetemol alternately, when there's an actual reason for the pain I don't stint myself, but the salty gargle is helping it all mend perfectly well :)

My little walk was nice, and I *did* do some gardening - weeding a patch of border nearest to the house, and actually got some mulch on it! And I picked some strawberries - the alpine variety, got rid of some of them - there are much more productive herbs to be had, and the strawbs require constant attendance, grrr.

I'm off to the south coast this morning - admire the sea, pick up some shells for the garden, and possibly buy a housewarming gift for youngest nephew and holiday pressies for Norfolk rellies :) woohoo, going to shops and *actually* spending money :)

Hope everyone has a lovely day :)

Ah KC, I don't catch up with your diary nearly enough. It'll be the writer in you, but there is a certain warm familiarity with the way you write, the diary equivalent of a snooze in the garden on a sunny day! :)

I suspect that you could weave a very good semi-autobiographical character into your eventual novel, your life and interests are so varied. 'Classic' enough to be interesting, modern enough to not send us all to sleep ;)

I worry about the fate of novel writing once generation Y and Z come to the fore. 'I was sitting ordering some bargains on Amazon when a WhatsApp message appeared' :D:p :rotfl:

How lovely! Thank you Ed, thats really beautiful :)

Bit concerned I'm sending you to sleep tho :p even on a sunny day :)

Little bits of myself are in various characters, of course .. There's one older character based on me who I decided to kill off via Russian gunrunners come down from London  That was even before I heard of the policy on Falling Skies - no one is safe, everyone can die if aliens invade :D. You can't just describe, you have to show, as well - thats the mantra, apparently :rotfl:

I'm letting my early lunch digest, and sitting in front of the lappie as I do ... there's a recipe on grist.org for foraged pesto, that uses plantain seeds - that really *does* sound foraged, doesn't it. So I started to think about the plants we have that could be used like that, that have appreciable seedheads.

As well as the plantain, I got nigella (love in a mist), poppy, sunflower and sorrel. Plus, of course, all the grasses in my little patch of green that have huge great seedheads :rotfl: only after the zombie apocalypse for those, tho :rotfl:

Anyone think of any other plants that seed, that are edible?

Anyway, I was also thinking about my rhubarb - one of my plants has a habit of bolting and sending up a flower spike, which I've let turn to seed on both occasions :o and then I found this wonderful site: http://www.rhubarb-central.com/ so I've asked her :D

Also found a Scottish blog about using rhubarb flowers (and she's made rhubarb and elderflower too!) https://scottishforestgarden.wordpress.com/2013/05/08/eating-rhubarb-flowers/ so I'm a happy bunny :)

    ETA - even happier bunny:
    - happiness one - gave up on the Sainsbury website yesterday for good, and today I put an order through on the Asda website - why, oh why, did I not just move to Asda months ago? Just because their store isn't in walking distance, doesn't mean they don't deliver :o I'm sure I've saved at least a tenner.
    - happiness two - had a circular walk around the town, took lots of piccies of the London - Brighton bike ride whizzing through - its a really different atmosphere in the small towns along the route, compared to what you see in, er, London or Brighton :D very interesting.

  • That sounds like a very satisfying few days, KC:j

Did two car boot sales this weekend. Feeling pretty tired now although only yesterday's involved being on site at 5.30 in the morning:eek:. It was a dull and drizzly morning and buyers were few so I suppose I should have been satisfied with the £69 I made after costs.

Today's was lovely, held on a field adjoining a display of vintage tractors and farm machinery and with a nearby hall exhibiting country bygones. We live an exciting life in these parts:rotfl:. Lots of friendly people who wanted to spend money (even on my tat :o) and, more importantly, taking place on a sunny afternoon:j. Made £178. I counted it 3 times because I couldn't believe it:rotfl:. That's £247 in all and I'm delighted and relieved because I've some big bills due within the next couple of weeks, all car-related and unavoidable.

I'm making a real effort this year to clear all the clutter once and for all and NOT to buy anything else that looks like a potential profit-maker. How long I stick to the final bit of my aim remains to be seen:o

Just checked my diary and am so glad that I did because about a month ago I'd made a note that they are cutting off the electricity to the village all day tomorrow for essential upgrading. Have just dug out 2 thermos flasks because whatever other electricals I can't use I just couldn't survive a day without copious amounts of tea:o. It's times like this when I covet KC's solar kettle:rotfl:

Hi there! You made £247!!! Thats absolutely amazing, CBC, well done you, seriously - thats long hours, even tho you're in such lovely surroundings - and the one you were at today *does* sound lovely :)

A lot of my weekend has been lovely too, you're right :) there was weeding going on this afternoon, I'm actually starting to tackle the weeds that are growing over the lovely big blackcurrant.

The sun kettle - it warms things, thats all, CBC, everything has to be finished off in the kettle, even on the hottest days we've had so far - its not what its cracked up to be, not in this latitude :rotfl: but it would certainly extend the life of the cartridges for my little gaz camping stove.

Good luck with the power being off tomorrow - I shan't expect to see you :p make sure you have a big breakfast

 Hi KC :) Sounds like you're pottering on nicely :j I'm impressed at all your weeding! :j I've done none :o And Asda too - I'm a wander-to-the-shops-every-day kind of a girl (although I sometimes wish I wasn't) but if it's saved you at least a tenner then it's got to be a good thing - yay! :j

Gosh CBC, £247 in a weekend? :j That's brilliant, well done you! :j I've only ever done one car boot sale - can't remember how much I made but I think it was about £7.50 and we spent a fiver on tea and cake while we were there :o :rotfl: Obviously don't have your skills! :j

    Hello Cheery!

If I went to the shops every day, I wouldn't have the energy to do the weeding, or anything else for that matter - physical energy is still a huge problem, sadly. So a delivery is great for me, cheaper and time and energy saving :)

We finally have rain here today :j I'd actually watered a few containers over the weekend, but I was going to have to get serious about it if it hadn't rained soon. Happy bunny again :D

The minute it stops raining, I'm off to the elderflower tree, its almost finishing, and I want a few more flower heads first :) otherwise, phone session and meeting up with my business partner, along with assorted writing bits and bobs.

Hope everyone has a good day.
