I just noticed your budget of £25...how on earth do you do that? I spend about £8 every three days just on bread and milk top ups in the village store! Thats before any real food. I am impressed by anyone who can manage on such a budget. :T

I include the dog in my GC - she is not at fussy - thank goodness. We don't buy alcohol. Mr F was given a bottle of red wine last week - that will go in cooking. Re biscuits - cheaper to make and more filling.

I make my own bread - 40p a time - 1 slice fills me up. Re milk - we use skimmed - 4 pints for £1 at Mr As.. I started the GC with stocks - freezers heaving with HM meals and even stocks of dried foods under the stairs + tins in the garage.

I think I was born in the wrong era - I would have managed well in rationing times.

I am very impressed. You do well. Sadly my dog is on a special gundog breeding diet so cannot cut costs there...and my 5 /7 year old boys love their bread and semi skimmed milk...we use 4 pints a day and a loaf every 2 days...I tried making it and find they love it toasted but not in packed lunches so ended up with both loaves every day...leaving the garden birds happily fed!

I grew up with nothing so have sadly spent the last 15 years making up for it! I need to buy a house though in the next 2 years before I am too old for a mortgage! eek...I need a deposit and have no savings...this is why I need to stop giving it to Mr T & Mr W all the time! It is mine mine mine and I want it back ;)

I too grew up with nothing - born during the end of rationing - lived in a prefab. Dad wouldn't let Mum work so one small wage came in - just 2 children. I remember Mum buying veg cheap off the woman who lived in prefab opposite. This woman had an allotment so sold surplus to Mum.
