    So this is me holding myself accountable, publicly, albeit anonymously, for my spending.

    To be fair I'm not so bad, sort of, ish.

    DH on the other hand has issues!!

    Why am I doing a Diary? Well it all came to a head when DH spent his entire wage (£1500) within a week of being paid. Of course a portion of this went to bills etc. But equally a lot was wasted on games for his playstation.

    It's frustrating because between us we bring in over £3k a month and literally have nothing at the end of it. I'm sick of it.

    So I've took on this challenge. I will do my utmost to rein DH in and fully intend to get us out of this debt.

    My intention is to tackle the different debt one at time.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I'm going to list our current debt.... GULP
    Outstanding on Mortgage - £84451
    Credit Card 1 - £2803.37 - interest free for 2 yrs
    Credit Card 2 - £1490 - interest free for 2 yrs
    Hitachi finance (for new Boiler) £3093 (includes interest)
    Littlewoods £518 (includes interest)
    Next £444
    Newlook (DH has no idea about this eeek) £130
    Loan 1 - £10865
    Loan 2 - £5964
    My overdraft currently stands at £150
    Dh's overdraft £700
    DH got a loan out last October - not sure what is outstanding on that so I'll have to update on that later.
    I do know that it's £155.12 a month payment.
    DH also has finance on a bicycle - again I need to get the outstanding on that
    Finance for a new TV - he got this against my advice - total amount was £899 - obtained earlier this yr - need the outstanding
    AND - he's recently took up a hobby that's resulted in the purchase, finance, for some items - again need to total figure on that one.
    See - he likes to buy things
    Without knowing DH's total outstanding I've totted up known figures.
    So including the mortgage we owe at least £110,608.37
    I also have a student loan that's £150 out of my wage every month. I believe I'm due my yearly statement this month so I can see what is outstanding hopefully. With 2 lots of Mat leave in the last 5 years it's taken longer to pay off. I'm hoping that I'm nearing the end though as that would be a huge help once gone.
    I do have some good habits!
    I overpay on our Mortgage. I think it's a monthly overpayment of around £120. I'll have to double check. Been doing that for years although previously the overpayments were more I the region of £75.
    I think initially I will concentrate efforts on overpaying the Hitachi finance and the Littlewoods account. Luckily with the Littlewoods account that is a buy now pay later (expires Jan) and I'm well on course to pay that off in time.
    With the Hitachi finance I currently pay just under £72 a month. I was the shittiest deal ever. However, it was Dec 2012. Our ancient boiler died. I was on mat leave. We needed a new boiler and in desperation took up the worst ever deal from British Gas. Ugh - shameful. I then just let it run it's course. I don't have figures at hand but I believe it was an 8 year deal and a disgusting interest rate.
    I logged into the account yesterday and found that it ends in Dec 2020. If I make just £18 a month overpayment it could end in Jan 2020!! I'm unbelievable peeved at myself for not concentrating on getting rid of this sooner. So that is my main goal!
    I aim to update at least once a week.
    Reading Challenge (My declutter efforts!)
    Ok so in October I decided to try and read a book a month.
    I've not chosen my November book yet. I'm actually really excited to do this later.
    However, I had tried to finish off a Kindle book in October - I got to 75% so will try and get this completed also in November
    This is what I've been reading on the kindle. I am actually really enjoying it and it has turned out to be nothing like what I thought it would be about, but in a good way. I'm intrigued, and actually a little apprehensive about how it'll end. I've got to a point in the book where I suspect something will happen and fear reading to find out!!
    Wow things are hectic at home and work so there's been lac of updates.
    Going to try and quick catch up.
    As usual this is the quiet time until Pay day so there's not a great deal of movement/changes
    Will try and list a few things today
    4) To earn £50 from surveys - only payable to count
    £27.18/£50
    PA payout. That's my November contribution to the annual bills pot. Would be lovely if I could get another £25 Pa contribution to that pot this month.
    The other week I shopped around for new car insurance as my renewal quote had gone up from the previous year. I went through a cashback site and although it came out the same as the reneweal quote, with the cashback it worked out cheaper.
    Well on Friday I called up my old insurance co. to cancel the renewal explaining I'd found a slightly better deal. I got the usual "let me see if I can get it cheaper for you".
    Well they did!!! A £66 yearly saving in fact. So instead of £28 a month for 11 months, I got it for £22 a month for 11 months! So cancelled with new company and got my deposit back.
    Hopefully next year I can pay it off in one hit
    Morning,
    You're doing really well.
    Fantastic result on the car insurance, I didn't get to change mine or DH's this year but plan to next year.
    November Goals
    2) To pay a total of £1000 off debt
    £47.5/£1000
    2) To get £900 in the EF
    £250/£900
    Well sadly this has taken a hit this week. DH car...again!!! This is to rectify ongoing issues...all which could've been cheaper had it been sorted in the first instance But you know what had we not started the EF we would've added the cost to credit cards. So sadly we won't get to £1000 in the EF by Christmas but we might get half way there again.
    3) To list 15 items on Ebay
    1/15
    Managed to list a broken hoover....got a bid on it within 30 mins! ! Still a couple of days left on it
    4) To earn £50 from surveys - only payable to count
    £27.18/£50
    Having major issues with VO at the moment whereby surveys aren't working. Looking into it it's a known issue and hopefully will get sorted soon.
    Already back up to £5 earned in my PA account, hoping to get to £25 before payout again.
    So pleased you had an ef for the car issues, why don't you reset your target - you'll feel better for achieving a lower target than not teaching a bigger one.
    Yet again life getting in the way and so no regular updates. Pay day in 2 days and so there will be some good debt busting updates.
    November Goals
    2) To pay a total of £1000 off debt
    £47.5/£1000
    2) To get £350 in the EF
    £250/£350
    So I've readjusted this particular target after a huge chunk was used on DH's car. Hopefully I can achieve this.
    3) To list 15 items on Ebay
    1/15
    Not made any head way with this And actually the one item I did sell I think will fall through as the person who has won the bid has not paid, or got in contact about collection and in fact it's a brand new account with no feedback. So I'm not hopeful on that one.
    4) To earn £50 from surveys - only payable to count
    £27.18/£50
    No movement on this yet. VO seems to be slowly sorting itself out though.
    Little and often for debt busting. You are not adding to your debt, you had an emergency fund to fix the car issue and it's no where near the end of the month yet.
    Well another disaster! Poor DH. Finally got car sorted. The on Monday night he was driving along the motorway and the car in fronts exhaust fell off and ricocheted under his car knocking his steering out and piercing the power steering fluid bottle thing. That cost £280 to sort.
    So we have a clean slate with the EF.
    Yay for emergency funds booo to having to raid it twice in a month.
    Just keep on the treadmill. (And your debt has gone down by more than this last emergency fund raid)
    You are winning at this (ok, slower than you'd like, but you are winning)
