fwiw i bought a 310xt with the heart rate monitor in the summer & no regrets, i use it everytime i run and it has made running more productive & enjoyable

personally i do use quite a few of the functions, although it also has more complex functions and abilities like pre-programmed training programs i haven't go into (yet)

the 310xt isn't the most compact watch on the market (it's a few years old) - but it is waterproof & excellent value for money

p.s. shop around it's usually about £130ish on amazon and with some retailers but other big name retailers have it on at it nearer £200

I recently picked up a used forerunner 210 off ebay for just 50 quid. I've been tracking my mtb rides for years using endomondo on my phone but the forerunner is a huge improvement in accuracy. I've compared them both side-by-side but there really is no comparison. Syncs with the PC immediately and takes about a minute to manually upload to Endo and Strava.

Small, stylish, accurate and easy to use. All I could ask for really.

It came as a regular amazon email yesterday, on sale (supposedly!), for £123, hence wondering whether I should go for it. I haven't heard from OH, so can assume he has ordered it! Will see. I think I am actually looking more forward to using it for swimming then running!

The Nike watches, which I understand will soon be discontinued, are dreadfully inaccurate. But really, any pure GPS will struggle in built-up areas, while your phone map may still be able to take accurate measurements by picking up wifi signals, etc. I've started running with my iPhone (on an arm band) and it's great

Don't you mean the phone can pick up mobile internet signals rather than wifi for taking more accurate measurements? In fact, given the unreliability of mobile internet, I would wager that a lot of people would have significant issues getting a connection for 100% of any outdoor run. For my runs at least, i find that my gps watch gives accurate measurements when I compare with googlemaps and actually driving routes and checking my cars mileometer.
