Home insurers for non-traditional built house?

Hi hope someone can help.

I have what is called a non-traditional built house. I have had buildings and contents insurance with the Halifax since we bought the house in 2003 and have never claimed on it.

Every year it seems to get higher so I wanted to try switching but cant find other companies that do it.

Anyone know any?

Thanks

What is unusual about the construction?

Its built with concrete wall panels and has a flat roof. The joy of a 70's ex council house.

Your best bet would be to try a broker as they will do the leg work for you, otherwise try Norwich Union as they willl normally underwrite non standard construction.

If you go to a brokers they can do NU for you as well, sometimes the brokers price with NU is cheaper than direct sometimes its more.

If you ring them yourselves make sure you make very clear how your home is constructed as you will probably be speaking to one of their "Off Shore" call centres. Ask for the persons full name, the date / time and they will often give you a call reference. If you get these then they can trace the call if there is ever a dispute in the future over what was said
