£17.94 ????????????
Whats £17.94 for ? is that a month

£2.93 a month - £17.58 I make that with dialaphone (never used it myself and always cancelled in first 30 days).

I have moaned about it and the insurance being services which you can not cancel at point of sale. Ofcom might wake up one day.

Thanks, OneADay for your advice. Having not received any correspondence from this company I assumed (wrongly) that it was something to do with the insurance policy I did cancel. I have received confirmation from 'GeekSquad' that it is nothing to do with them but they suggested that I contact GadgetSupport. They are obviously affiliated in some way so I have just sent another email requesting the immediate refund of the money and cancellation of any associated policies. I refuse to ring them on a premium rate number when I have received no correspondence from this company nor have I authorized any policy for technical support with this phone. This is obviously some dubious technique on the part of mobiles.co.uk for passing my bank details to them for a policy I have not taken out or the Carphone Warehouse which runs mobiles.co.uk.
Silk, I have absolutely no idea what the £17.94 is for. All I do know is that I have no knowledge of any policy that has been set up in my name. I have given them 48 hours to respond to my complaint and refund the money. I have seen several other threads regarding this company and I think everyone needs to be aware what is going on when they purchase a phone from this company.

Hi, Just to post an update re TMTI. Sent an e-mail of complaint yesterday. Have received a reply today, no apology, just an automated letter stating that the money will be refunded to my account on 25th March. No confirmation that policy has been cancelled, but hopefully the money will be refunded as stated and not taken out again.

Good result, Rachel. It's a shame that you had to go to that trouble, but at least the solution seems to be being dealt with fairly quickly now.
• This wont really help the people who have already been charged by these robbers but it might help those still in the 30 day free period. I set up a new account with dialaphone and got the free 30 day gadget helpline (tmti) included about 3 weeks ago. Still waiting on the welcome letter with the ref code to cancel the contract so i emailed the vip@tmti.net to tell them i wanted to cancel but didnt have the ref number as they hadnt sent me a letter. No reply so i emailed them again, and again and today was the 6th email to them with no reply. Ive tried ringing the helpline but they are always "currently receiving a high level of calls" I checked to see if there were any new direct debits set up in my bank account but the only one there was 'policy service admin' which is the insurance for dialaphone which ive already cancelled. Apparently tmti wait until the last minute to set up the direct debit and then withdraw the £17.54 before you get a chance to cancel it, crafty gets. So ive emailed consumer direct to let them know about tmti's practises, printed off every email i've sent to them and just contacted my bank to ask if they can stop a direct debit from being set up and glory be they can!! :T So just ring your bank and tell them to stop any direct debits from a company called tmti and they wont be able to steal your money!!!

Thanks for the feedback, it does make a difference.
,

I'm aware this is an old thread and you ( The Rep for Mobiles.co.uk ) have left the site.

But for new people EVEN considering dealing with your company, I would like to make a few points.
Hi there,

Both insurance and a gadget helpline (especially given the rise of smartphones) we feel to be useful services

Why dont you let the customer decide that ? Are you the nanny state or trying to con people out of some extra money ( I think we all know the answer to that one ).
Cancelling both services is straight-forward

And Pigs can fly.
Thanks for the feedback, it does make a difference.

Your welcome, but Im sorry to say it never makes any difference for the customers you constantly mislead.

I am 100% behind you on that and the rest of your post.

Regrettably, it is not just mobiles.co.uk and other CPW companies that sneak in this unwanted insurance/help. Silver Shamrock has had the same problem with Dial-a-phone (Phones4u).

This "small print" addition that requires you to cancel it even if you didn't ask for it in the first place is reprehensible and is made much worse by TMTI holding on to the cancellation number ( a total red herring designed to make cancellation difficult) and then hitting the DD instruction simultaneous with the payment.

Absolute scam - regardless whether it is a CPW or a Phones4U company that is complicit.

Hi GD,
It's rather like mobiles.co.uk want you to get a returns number to send something back isn't it ;)

Do you think that theres any truth in the rumour that TMTI is part of the CPW ????

I see it was mentioned about Talk Talk being a shareholder ?
It's not just about the money

Morning, Silk,

Not sure about TMTI being part of CPW. If they are, I find it strange that they are used by Phones4U as well, being CPW's biggest non-network UK competitor. But you may be right

See, for example, http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/broadband-help.aspx near the bottom of the page. "
Can you help me get started?

We have teamed up with TMTI Gadget Helpline to provide you with the specialised support you need. This service is offered FREE for 1 month (£2.99 per month thereafter). This is available with all laptop and mobile broadband solutions."

In any event, this "you've got this addition unless you do something to cancel it" way of doing business is out of order, in my view.

You should always have to opt-in and not opt-out. But in strict fairness to the "not flavour of the month/year" mobiles.co.uk/CPW, they are not the only ones at it and this should be acknowledged.

I emailed them twice on Friday via their website contact form and I've just noticed a bounce to my gmail spam folder.
