Wow, I didn't know that! Thanks Bob. I know some people type their reply in Word and the use copy-and-paste to make sure they don't lose it. I think I must just be lucky because I've never lost a post at all in all the years I've posted on here.

I wonder if it's more prone to happen when posting on a tablet or phone? I've only ever used a desktop pc or laptop.

ETA I've bookmarked your post just in case!

Son's new bed has just arrived.

I use the term "bed" loosely :rotfl:
What has actually been delivered are three boxes containing pieces of wood, a bag of screws and an allen(sp?) key.
I've learn to avoid these self assembly jobs. I got a double bed once - with wooden slats for the mattress base and of course every one had to be fixed individually and the frame had to be totally square. After a minor nervous breakdown. I realised it would have been worth it to have paid the small optional extra to have the delivery guys assemble it.
My last self assembly was a canvas wardrobe. I'd had one of these previously and it was suprisingly sturdy and good value. The new one looked the same in the ad - I suppose they are all much of a muchness - but the wood frame was more like balsa wood - half the thickness and a lot more flimsy. It was practically impossible to assemble single handed as the assembled bit would lean drunkenly and go out of alignment before you managed to get the next bit on. The finished product was always on the verge of collapsing but it was OK so long as you didn't breathe on it.. ....:(

:)pineapple, I used to have one of the stronger wood and canvas wardrobes.

I found it abandoned in an alley near my old flat, brought it home and laundered the cream poly-cotton cover and wiped down the timber with disinfectant. I used it in the old flat and dismantled it on removal day to come here, already knowing that there was nowhere to put it.

One the last run over in the hired van, I had the uprights taped neatly together with gaffer tape (mila, british name for duct tape, as it is used in theatres/ gigs etc) and came in to show it to Mum. On the actual removal day, we'd discovered a plumbing leak in this flat and she was having to stay here whilst waiting for the plumber while Dad and I shuttled to and fro.

Mum being Mum, she was building the slatted shelves for what would become my airing cupboard, I walked in with the wood and she virtually snatched it outta my hands and used it right away.

I used the canvas for the door curtain so that wombled item is still with me, in components, at least.:rotfl:

GQ DH says gaffa tape and duct tape are the same thing, but I think of gaffa tape as the black one that's easily tearable in either direction (IYSWIM) and duct tape as the shiny sort that isn't. :D

:) We called it gaffer tape when I worked in theatres and set up for gigs and we used no end of the black kind to tape down cables. Major distress if it ever went missing, I spent a chunk of my working life wearing a reel of it as a bracelet on my left arm, it was needed for so many things.

It did seem better than that silvery stuff, tho. Even 25 years ago, it was £4.99 for a fat reel of it. Love that stuff, so useful.

    :) Morning all.

daz, please pester your dad to see his doctor, he may have the start of something which will get worse without prompt treatment. I know people can be bliddy awkward at times, have played that game with my own mother a few times.

I was re-organising a small cupboard of candles and similar preps last night, having found two spare shoeboxes to utilise for containment. I adore shoe boxes, so very convenient for storage and not apt to attract attention.

Apartmentprepper has a post about how to manage prepping supplies in an environment subject to landlord inspections and visits by tradesmen. If you haven't visited this site, it may be of interest to some of us.

I'll 'fess up first - I added two more £2 coins to the 35mm canister stash yestereve. I really had no idea that Marky C was watching or that the BofE would be feeling sad. Which of the rest of us has overloaded their penny jar and over-stuffed their mattress?!

I watched the alternative economic news sites back in 2008 and got out a whole load of cash just in case. My DH laughed at me for suggesting the cash machines might stop working. And as we later found out, RBS came within half an hour of just that. He doesn't laugh now.

I'm still reading and taking note of things. I'm not yet at the stage of switching to the Bank of Vispring (only the best, you understand) but September is usually the month when it all kicks off
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

First Post I've been Money Tipped!
I always keep a small stash of cash at home usually in different labeled ex onion chutney jars. Used during the month for small household bills 'Gardener' (£24) History club'(£20) Quiz night (£8.00) 'Food only' (£60). I draw it out at the end of the month and split it up between the different jars. The rest of my cash is moved after the D/Ds etc are left in for the month, and shoved into a savings account so I always know to the penny exactly how much cash is in my current account.I try to make every penny work as well as I can .I have seperate long term savings accounts that I add to each month, and one is for holidays only and the other a rainy-day fund which is my cushion against disasters :)
Leaving cash sitting in a current account doing nothing apart from my bill money to me is wasteful I know the rates have dropped again but even .25% is better than 0%.My Isa rates which I have the major chunk of my cash in ,my eldest DD moves it around at various intervals as she is an accountant which helps no end :):):) I don't think anyone is making much from their interest at the moment
