Would you go to a concert on your own?

Hi,

I tried all morning to get Beyonce tickets for myself and a friend. At one point, I could have got two tickets but at almost £100 which my friend could not afford and I could. So I let them go . Mainly because I didn't want to be unfair to my friend as I feel she wanted to go as much as me. I feel a bt  that I let those tickets go. My friend has seen alot more concerts than me (including MJ) but this, for me, would possibly be a once in a lifetime thing.

Now, I've been to the theatre, opera and cinema on my own and even on a weekend away on my own but never a massive arena show in a big city. I'd really love to see Beyonce live and I'm more than a little gutted that I wasn't able to get tickets.

I'm in a financial position where (unlike most of my friends, who are married with young children) I could afford to buy a ticket on the black market (and enough of a fan to be stupid enough to do it!). So really there is only one thing stopping me...is it weird/unsafe to go to a concert alone?

I'm female, in my late twenties, not very streetwise lol.

  • If you're not confident, really want to attend the event, and can afford it, why not treat your friend to a ticket? See it as paying for an escort! Or ask her for £20 if that's what she can afford.
  • I wouldn't go to a concert if you paid me.

However, in terms of weirdness, I don't consider it any weirder to go to a concert on your own than to go to the cinema or to a restaurant on your own. I believe it's accepted that single people have lives that don't revolve solely around their friends.

Can't see the attraction of a concert though...

I can only afford it for myself... There is a possiblity of me getting 1 ticket for £150, I can't afford £300 and even if I could we wouldn't get them together.
  • Ah. In that case, I'd start looking for friends to start coaching me in streetwiseness or to start trying to acquire some additional friends who are a bit more flush in the pocket.

In principle I don't see why not, but I know what you mean, you don't want to be sitting/standing there looking like Nelly No-Mates :) It'd be ok during the concert itself, but during the breaks while everyone else is chatting to their friends you might feel a bit alone if you're by yourself.
  • Do you think it could be that your friend does not want to waste money on a ticket that may not be valid as you have mentioned a black market source?

Having been to a load of concerts on my own I don't see it a problem as you can't hear what the other person is saying anyway but I would never pay for a ticket that wasn't from an official source as I see them to be a rip-off and would prefer to let it go.

Wisdom comes from experience. Experience is often a result of lack of wisdom.

Yeah, I'm kind of used to that in a way although that's not to say I like that alone feeling. When I'm at the theatre alone I tend to just go to the loo, get a drink and read my programme. At a concert, its not really the same. The theatre and opera are more "refined" so I guess I feel more confident about those. But a concert in a city 60 miles away from home, with what could potentially be a rowdier crowd I'm not too sure about :o. I'd definitely feel "safer" with another person.

I have seen Muse twice and Oasis once at Wembley and went by myself. People tend to notice you're on your own and chat to you. After all, you've got the band in common to talk about. Not weird at all!
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.

No, it was just her upper price limit, the original tickets I was mentioning were from the official site but all dates sold out within ten minutes of release. Seated tier one was £93.75 or something plus booking fee and with booking fee it was almost £100 per ticket. She wasn't prepared to pay that.

Black market IS a rip off but...it's Beyonce....:o

I would go on my own, The breaks are no time at all. Once you've been you'll be glad you did.
