Log Burner quote - thoughts please

HI,

I would really appreciate your thoughts, I have been quoted to have a log burner installed and wondered how the quote stacks up in other people's opinion?

Burner and flue installation
Power sweep of the flue and smoke test
Supply and install 7yr carbon monoxide alarm
supply and install 316 20yr warranty flue liner. Bird guard cowl, stove pipe, adapter to flex, 1.5mm galvanized steel debris plate. Including sundries, Test and certificate.
£750

Building work
Create new opening in chimney breast and skip rubble
Install new concrete lintel and patch up brickwork,
Pva opening and walls ready for adhesive/hardwall coat
Plaster chimney breast line opening in glasroc board
Lay 2 piece riven slate hearth.
£1270

With the stove on top, its coming in at around £2800 (depending on stove I choose) The building work seems pricey? I'm in Birmingham.

I'd appreciate any input or advice you might have

    Supply and fitting of liner at £750 isn't too bad a price - Although I'd make sure stainless steel is used throughout.

    If the builder is using British Gypsum's Glasroc F Multiboard, be warned - It is a gypsum product and will crack, craze, and probably delaminate when exposed to temperatures above 50°C. You'd be better off using Hardibacker cement boards or plastering with Vitcas (or Everbuild) heat resistant plaster.

    Or if you want a smooth white finish, specify lime plaster - I finished my chimney breast in lime right up to the stove (an inset cassette style). If you do go for lime plaster, don't use PVA.

    Pretty fair price I would say.....
    Around what I paid.
    Put a good quality stove in though.

    My new installation is coming in at around £3k.

    I'm getting a limestone surround in that, but I'm fitting the hearth myself (and a right pain that's been!)

    I also agree about using cement board for the chimney breast.
