Assessed Water Charges

For the benefit of those living in flats or properties where it is not technically possible to fit an individual water meter the following notes may be of use.

Apply for a meter, even if you already know it is not feasible.

The supplier is obliged to offer you an Assessed Water Charge if a meter, for whatever reason, cannot be provided. Suppliers do not always comply with this requirement.

The assessment should be based upon estimated usage using data supplied by the customer. (Thames Water seem to think the average of all users can be used, check with OFWAT)

OFWAT say that water companies are not permitted to publicise the above procedure.

How many thousands of consumers out there, many of them pensioners, do not realise that the eqivalent benefits of a meter are available via this process??
