Forced to apply for new role

My company have decided to scrap two current job roles for two new ones...however we have already been told thst role is significantly different and involves a 30% change in responsibility

Is it reasonablr to force people to apply for these new roles as they are not a reasonable alternative

we have been told if we dont apply then we forfeit redundancy

Cab this be right?

Yes it can. A suitable alternative role is not measured in percentages. If the employer wishes to consider it a suitable alternative role and deny redundancy, then you would have to go to a tribunal to prove otherwise. And you might not win.

Untill they put you on notice you still have a job.

If they say these are suitable alternatives then they should use a selection process which can include interview there should be no need to apply.

By forcing you to apply they bypass the suitable alternative process as you can't invoke that later.

What if you choose to apply during the process? Does that mean you have deemed it to be suitable and if you are successful you have to take the job offered or forfeit redundancy?

If a suitable job is offered and you don't take it, then usually it is the case that you have effectively resigned. When a role is redundant, redundancy is normally only offered if there is no suitable alternative role within the organisation.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

You need to make it clear you are not applying for the job but are considering it as a potentially suitable alternative as part of the consultation and redundancy process.
once you have all the terms conditions and job description you can then assess if you consider it suitable needs a trial period and/or training

You may still have to negotiate if the employer thinks it is suitable and you don't, if no agreement it may need to go to ET.

Apply and with some employers you won't get that option.
The you must apply or you have resigned is a hint they will try to do you.
