Years ago I bought a few domain names on 123 reg. They are not being used and someone has approached me to buy one. Two questions - 1) How easy is it to transfer a domain name? 2) How much do I ask for it and how will I get payment? I have an ebay and Paypal account, would that work?

Any help would be appreciated as I haven't got a clue. Thanks.

Edit -I have just seen that 123 reg do it all for 30% of the sale price. Would this be my best bet?

  • I personally would never use Paypal when transferring a domain,in fact I urge you not to use it or indeed ebay, you would need to use a specialist payment transfer facility, if you google the safe payment methods for domain transfers you should be able to find one you can use.

Alternative method would be to use someone like SEDO though they would take a percentage of your sale value.

The actual process of moving a domain name to another account is actually quite simple and should be able to get full instructions of this from your domain name account website.

Thanks for your reply. I will make them an offer and see if they accept. Will then go through Sedo or similar as we will both be protected.

I sold a domain on Sedo. I've never done it before but was very happy with the process. Their fees are high but you never know if you will get a lower price somewhere else even if your fees are lower.

They handle the entire process from domain parking to escrow and taking payment. No risk whatsoever

Thank you. Sounds good. I will give them a go, I am happy to pay for an easy hassle free service.
  • Glad to help.

Just make sure you read the terms and conditions properly and make sure you understand at what point you are comitting to the sale.

I set a minimum offer and once that is made I did the 'push to auction' and then 7 days later you have to sell at that price.
