  • Hi,

Me and a mate have decided to book a trip to vegas for christmas and my birthday on the 27th. Haven't booked anything yet looking to get booked up on saturday. Was wondering if anyone can recommend the best place to book? hotel to stay at? shows/trips to do when we are there. how much to expect to pay for things. i was looking to take about 500dollars a day spending money would this be enough?

    Thanks,
    Scott

Hotels should be cheap at that time as it's the slowest period for Vegas.

You may struggle with shows as many of them are dark at that time of year.

Go to Page 1 of this topic and you will find all the information you could ever want.

You can read my most recent trip report from May which has prices for some of the things we did.

hi mrshedgehog, was the luxor really so bad? :(

we are staying there for 3 nights during our trip and i am really looking forward to it (the novelty of the pyramid!) - now i am worried!

I think it is probably an age thing!! (I'm 53!!) It was adequate, I was disappointed that we didn't have a kingsize bed we had 2 queen size. It wasn't that bad just felt it was a bit tired and in need of decoration. The novelty of the pyramid was great although husband being in the construction industry and saying what a waste of space the area in the middle is made me laugh!! Typical man. It is quite a walk from the top end of the strip Bellagio, Mirage, Venitian I agree but when you are on holiday time isn;t important.

The one thing that really got up my nose was all the offers of girls from very sleazy men trying to give out business cards with naked girls on, no respect to the fact my husband and I were walking hand in hand why would he want some cheap young thing ???:cool::cool::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:answers on a postcard please.

I don't think you can compare Branson with Vegas by ANY stretch of the imagination !!

I was thinking the same thing - it may have changed but last I heard Branson was very much geared toward country music, which I happen to like, but many people don't.

I have just checked and I also have the box ticked to get the inside scoop for both email addresses, but no scoop happening here.

Very strange - spam folder maybe? I really have no idea...very odd given how many I get from them.

We felt the same way about our pyramid room...it was novel and I'm glad we tried it out - but it wasn't a place we would rush back to. Our room was also pretty worn and while I know some disagree (stoneman, I'm looking at you) we thought the room was quite dark. We had a pyramid spa suite and the room was big, but given the sloping walls we knew it wouldn't seem as spacious as a normal room with proper straight walls. :) We're not huge fans of the casino anymore either - which for us is a big thing. Years ago we used to spend loads of time there, but not so much the last few years.

Different strokes and all - it's impossible to say if someone else will love the place or not - so karie - don't fret, you may love the place. It's not a horrible pit or anything and is worth trying to find out for yourself.

lol When I was in Vegas last year, there was a report on the local news station about those sleazy card men. Apparently there are a lot of complaints every year from ppl who don't like piccy's of lady bits thrust in their faces by these people, but the County Council (if you will) won't ban it because although it is tacky, it also provides lots of jobs, so it's easier and cheaper to let them hand the cards out rather than them all collecting unemployment benefits or turning to crime. It also provides jobs for street cleaners too.
TBH it's hilarious watching a card man tying elastic bands around a lamp post then attaching call girl cards in them and then 10 mins later watching a cleaner remove them. A vicious circle, but also a rather funny one. :rotfl:

New York would probably be the closest in that respect. Part of our problem is we've gotten so used to going to Vegas, nowhere else really compares - so rather than being disappointed going somewhere else, we just go to Vegas again. :)

The prices don't compare either. Hotels anywhere else seem so expensive to us.

I've checked my spam folder, nothing there.

The strange thing is, I have reconfirmed my preferences again and the email confirming I have updated my profile was received OK.

I also get an email if I buy any certs, just not any with the latest codes.

That's a very good point - when we stayed in NY we had quite a small hotel room for quite a lot of money relatively speaking. Food options as well are generally more expensive - sure you can get relatively cheap meals if you want but not of the quality you can in Vegas.

I suppose the casinos subsidizing everything really makes a difference.
