Help with sherry trifle please...

I've to take a sherry trifle to my MILs tomorrow.... I have started to make the jelly but all the recipes online seem to use jam instead of jelly:confused:

I can't find a recipe....help please

I have just made up some jelly using 2 packets of jelly in a pint of liquid to make sure it won't be watery and when it cools I am going to add fresh raspberries. Am I doing this right? Do I wait until the jelly is set then put trifle sponges on top of that and soak in sherry ;) or do I put them in the jelly as well as the raspberries to soak up some jelly too..... ?

Very confused now:eek:

Lala xx

Traditionally a sherry trifle was made without jelly.

    Easy method:

Cut a jam swiss roll into small swirl like slices "@''

Lay them around the base and slides of your glass trifle bowl

(this is so you can see the ingredients,so LAY IT NEATLY)

pour a liberal amount of sherry over the swiss roll pieces

(its amaizing how it soakes it up)

place some of your fruit ontop of this

next pour custard on top and let it set

(do not place in fridge whilst custard is hot, wait till its cooled down quite a bit)

once set, finish with lashings of whipped cream

you can garnish with cherries, flaked almonds

or for a different finish, crush up a flake and sprinkle on top

This is only a guide, you can adjust any part of it any way you want.

If using jelly, pour jelly on once you have added the fruit.Let the jelly set, then add the custard.

You can also cool your custard, then add whipped cream into it.This makes a very tasty custard this way.

You can also add sherry to the cream or /and custard too !
