Child benefit / tax credit

My wife is expecting, its very early days but I wanted to start researching child benefit and what we may or may not be entitled to. I am totally ignorant to this stuff!

I earn £32,000 per year and I drop 9% down through salary sacrifice into a pension, not sure if it has any bearing...

My wife earns £26,000 but gets commission based on sales, last year she brought in £39,000.

I did a HRMC online calculator form, and although some of the questions I couldn't answer for sure, it came back that we are entitled to a big fat £0.

Is this correct?

Forgive my ignorance, its all new to me and I found the website info a little vague.

I make it that you are eligible for child benefit but not child tax credits. Which calculator did you use?

You’ll be entitled to child benefit of £20.70 per week.

Neither of you is a higher rate tax payer so should be entitled to Child Benefit.

Other benefits would be available for low income but your income alone stops entitlement to tax credits. There may be other help available if you have childcare in future eg tax free childcare

No it's not. You also have a combined income of £60k.

haha relax! I am only asking a question... would be foolish to not ask if it meant missing out on something. We all pay enough tax.....
