O/S Daily Saturday 20 May 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light and dry underfoot at the moment, but not sure it will stay that way, we'll see.

DH and myself up and enjoying first peaceful cuppas, DH is going to work but I'm on days' off, but will be heading into town this morning.

Dinner last night was HM lasagne, chips and salad, there's 2 portions of lasagne in the freezer for another meal. Tonight we'll be having the spanish tapas meal, I'll make some HM rice, it won't be that authentic but it'll be something a bit different. I'm also hoping I'll have a chance to do some baking/cooking as I'm trying to use everything up and not throw anything away.

Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thank you for the thread nmlc.

I'm up and having a peaceful time before OH and DS get up. DS will be packing for a trip to the USA and that's going to be fun ahem. But I'm going to be working later this morning so I should miss a bit of the drama and mayhem and that's a mild description. He's checked in online now. The last of his washing is in the machine now, most things are clean and ready.

Hoping that people have a good day and Nelski am keeping you in my thoughts.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It was tipping down when I got up this morning. Max did not want to go out for a wee so had to be gently persuaded :). I think it has stopped for now though so hopefully it will dry out later.

I woke up and managed to have a cup of tea before my grandson appeared. He is now going round with his tablet taking photos of everything including some very unflattering ones of me . I think I will be deleting those when he goes home.

I had a day off from the diet yesterday but didn't really enjoy it. I am back on it today though as I want another loss next week. Hubby is in charge of the domestics this weekend but he is very good at checking what I can have to eat.

DD14's new nurse came yesterday but my goodness he can talk. After an hour both DD14 and myself was exhausted. He is coming to the meeting on Wednesday with DD's psychiatrist so I hope it will be ok.

Well, my grand daughter has just come downstairs so I am off to make her some breakfast. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx.

    Morning :hello:

I was doing a bit of work and have just realised I have no idea how to account for a van on HP :o Everything has been bought outright before so I have no idea what to do with this, the rules have changed since I learned all this stuff. I've had a quick google and the info so far has been specific to various types of accountancy programs, I use a spreadsheet. HMRC are helpful but it takes forever to get through on the phone and I don't like being on hold for such a long time, I have no patience :D

A blackbird mistook the reflection in the window for airspace and crashed into it, landing at Scampi's feet. He put his head down to look, they were nose to beak for a few seconds, he was perfectly relaxed but I wasn't :D I knew the second it tried to fly off, he'd go for it so I distracted him with a huge 'Goooood boooyyyy!' and the bird took the opportunity to fly away :D

The undercover space in the garden was slowly being taken over with tools and gardening stuff, I couldn't make full use of the washing lines and although I could get to one chair, I really didn't want to sit there. I pulled almost everything out, swept the floor then put things where they're meant to be, it looks so much better. I can get to all three chairs and can now hang two loads of washing out at the same time - that's the thing I'm most pleased about, lol. I haven't quite finished so if the rain holds off, I'll do the rest today.

    Morning everyone,

(hugs) to those that need one, and a special one for Nelski and her family.

I am hoping that it will be a dry day today because I have got a load of towels and tea tea towels in the wm and want to put them out line dry and then I just finish the towels off in the td for a few minutes and this seems to soften them.

I defrosted a small piece of meat yesterday with the idea of cooking it for dinner today. The only problem was that I hadn’t labelled it so didn’t have a clue what it was. When it defrosted I realised that it was beef, but only 250g, so it must be what was left on the end when I had portioned up a large beef joint. So that went into the slow cooker yesterday afternoon because it wouldn’t have been any good roasted. I really must make sure that I label things properly :)

I will have the beef with some steamed veg and gravy today and the rest with a salad tomorrow.

A nice chilled day today, meeting a friend in town for coffee then back home to spend the rest of the day with a book and some catch up tv.

I hope that you all have a good a day whatever you are doing. Take care x

Morning folks. Blue sky and sunshine for us but scattered showers forecast for later.

The specialist was running an hour late yesterday and I had £ signs zipping round my eyes at the thought of the parking fee. He gave Mr TA's bent over fingers a good going over and said he would attempt a second op on them with no guarantees though. The muscle is so thickened there is chance of nerve damage. As he can't use them anyway there is nothing to lose so he is on the waiting list.

This afternoon's appt (yes on a Saturday) is for the nerve conduction studies to determine what type of motor neuropathy is weakening his legs. It will be a worrying wait for the results of those.

SOS from DD yesterday!! She has friends from Somerset staying for a couple of days as they wanted to experience the 40's weekend in Haworth. DD goes up every year but I've never been as I can't do with all the crowds. They have also booked a show at Bradford Alhambra tonight and DD wondered if we would have the two youngest DGDs to sleep again.

I got a big bag of red peppers for 50p on Leeds market after Thursday's hospital appt so I plan on making a big pan of my fave soup this morning. That and a sandwich will be our lunch before we go and the rest frozen in portions.

GERS my DB and SIL are going up your way tomorrow. They have been holidaying in Scotland twice a year all their married life. They are staying at St Catherines on Loch Fyne for a couple of nights and then heading for Mull for the rest of the holiday. Both places they love. Give them a wave if you spot them!

Have a good day folks and (HUGS) to those in need. Thinking of NELSKI. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Well I cant believe Dad is still hanging on but he is. When they started this end of life plan they said it would be 3/4 days and here we are on Day 6 :( I had a call at 10pm last night that he was in his last moments so my brother and I dashed in and were there till 2am but he was just breathing deeply and sleeping. Anyway we came home asking them to call with any change but nothing. He is obviously fighting to stay here for some reason but I wish he would just let go.:(

Bro is going back to France tomorrow which will of course leave me to deal with everything when he does go. Mum is in no fit state to think practically so has to be me. I do wish we had a bigger family it must be so much easier when there are a few people to take the strain.

In other news its a lovely day here today so I have a wash in now that I can get on the line. Ideally I would like to do brothers bedding on such a nice day but it would be a bit rude whizzing it from under him while he still sleeps then telling him he cant have it back on just for one night :D guess ill have to wait till tomorrow.

Groundhog day again today I guess with picking mum up visiting then lunch out.....if I see another pub lunch I swear Ill be ill myself

Enjoy your weekend if you can

Morning (((((((((( hugs)))))))))) if you need one, especially Nelski and family. I hope you vigil does not last too much longer.

Exhausting day yesterday. I drove to Malvern through pouring rain. Thankfully it did clear up, and was lovely for most of the day. I have decided that trailing round quilt shows is no longer what I want to do. There were some gorgeous quilts on show. I did not buy any fabric, just some trial metres of stabiliser for the embroidery machine and a reel of machine embroidery thread. My friend bought 15 balls of wool.

We travelled back to my friends house a different way, avoiding the dreaded motorway. OH drove the return journey, called at the chip shop and bought fish and chips for 3. Driving back home here we had the most ferocious rain storm, extremely heavy rain, and then hit single lane traffic where we turn off to travel across country.

We were in bed just after 9pm having had a shower and taken pain killers. I had a job getting out of the car.

No plans for the day apart from seeing the builder about the base for the shed, may be putting some plants in now we have had some rain.

    Morning everyone.

The weather was bright early on but is now dulling over again.

My plans for the weekend changed yesterday so now I'm sort of hanging about aimlessly. The change of plans meant I had to cancel my hair appointment for Tuesday and go to a new salon. My local one is closing down. I was very happy with the new place even if it took a long time to get my hair washed.

Later in the evening a neighbour called in to chew the fat and drink a wee dram. I've bitten my own particular bullet and invited some people for a drink next Friday evening. Usually I'm a bit awkward in social settings and prefer to be invited elsewhere so I can leave when I like. That's normally about an hour or so in, so having people here is a challenge for me! :rotfl:

TA - what a lovely spot your friends have chosen to visit. Only about 45 miles from me and close to the Oyster Bar. I hope the weather stays nice for them.

Nelski - my father hung on for a few days too, it's very distressing either way. His heart was strong right to the end. I sat with him and just talked to him, even saying that he didn't have to stay any longer, everything was fine. It's such a rubbish time.

In my unexpectedly free day I'm going to visit a couple of new places. I asked my visitor yesterday and he recommended Craignish so I'm going.

Hugs to those who are down. Happy Saturday to all.

    Morning All

I slept until 8.30 this morning, must have needed it. The weather is wet and gloomy so the washing will go on the pulley.

DD came into my work yesterday to help me out and get some office experience, she was great - I would take her on in a minute! Went to hers after to see if I could re-seal the shower, ended up taking the trap off underneath, bought 3 new ones, none fitted so we cleaned the old one and put it back on with a new drain cover, such a palaver! At least she cooked dinner.

Didn't get in until nearly 9pm so had a bath and went to bed.

    Thining of you Nelski.
    Enjoy exploring new places Gers.
    Well done Scampi!

I'm out to friends for dinner tonight, looking forward to it. Have a good weekend, take care. XX
