I suppose these places have their uses but I would have to be seriously "running on empty" before I considered them.

To the OP, hope you get it sorted ok :-)

We were running on empty 3 months ago! Not sure what we are running on now!

Wonga are actually one of the best of a bad bunch in terms of short term lenders.
  • Just a general few comments about Wonga. I currently have a loan with them and agree they are fit for purpose. However last month i extended my loan with them. I realised that the funds would not be available on the promised date because i was getting paid two days later. I didnt have the funds to extend again so i phoned them to tell them this and let them know funds will be two days late and that i accepted i would incur charges. Do you think i could get through to them? Again i was on hold for 21 minutes and then cut off so £2.10 in phonecalls and still i havent managed to get hold of them. This is do think is a scam! I cant say they are because i think it is clearly explained when you take a loan that you have to pay so much on the required date. But the phone calls 3 times now i have tried and still nothing very frustrating!

I too have used short-term loans in the past - as long as you pay them off when you're supposed to all is fine - in fact this is from the Wonga website so they couldn't really be more clear:

'Wonga is here to help with occasional cash flow problems - when you need a short-term cash advance to tide you over for a few days or weeks - but our service shouldn't be used to manage existing debt or as a regular source of ongoing credit. If you're already feeling the strain financially, please be aware that a Wonga loan will only add to your commitments because it must be repaid within 30 days. Always think carefully before commiting to any form of credit and, if in doubt, seek advice before making any decisions.
While there’s no magic answer for everyone, we've provided some quick advice on borrowing, plus tips on managing and escaping debt on this page. Simply select and browse the relevant sections using the links above. A quick internet search will also find many more sources of advice, such as the personal finance sections of most national newspapers' websites.'

Thanks for all the advise, I cancelled my card to stopp them "dipping into my account" I do intend to pay in full however by using the account details i now have for their account, lesson learned, and yes these people did help me when i needed help and yes i maybe a fool however once in this situation its really hard to get out. Thanks again though for the help and support given. :j
    But it won't stop them.
You have given authorisation and the amounts will just transfer to the new one.

Also, anyone calling the =m 'scammers' are just being ridiculous!
I haven't used them, and never will, but all their charges are transparent.

THe people that call them scammers are the ones that do not understand the agreement they sign.
  • Hi,

Can any seasoned Wonga users tell me how they let you know whether the application has been successful or not? I applied for a small loan to see me through the next week at about 7.30 this evening. (Should have started paying for my family holiday a lot earlier in installments really).

First the website said the application was delayed while they verified my details. A while later that message dissapeared and I now have 'My Account' page.

The thing is I haven't had any money put into my bank. I haven't had an email to say the application has been accepted or denied, nor is there any info about this on 'My Account' page.

I don't know if the application has been processed and denied or accepted. Alternatively I don't know if it get lost in the system somewhere.

I don't want to apply again, incase the loan is duplicated, and as I imagine that would mean two searches on my credit file. I don't expect a response from Wonga before Monday to my query, but I am wondering if I should inform my bank about this at all as clearly something has gone wrong.

Can any one tell me how Wonga normally notifies people about the progress and outcome of their applications? 15 mins sounded optimistic, but 3hrs plus is a bit more lengthy than I expected even for a no response.

    Many thanks for any advice.

I recently applied for a very small loan via Wonga to pay for the work i needed on my car to get it to pass it's MOT as i couldn't wait until i got paid to get the car fixed It took a day or two for them to approve my loan (probably because of a recent house move) and then it was for pretty much double what i'd asked for, i tried ringing them to change the amount to what i wanted as i couldn't see the point in just taking it and only using what i needed as i would be paying interest on the bit i didn't want. In the end they never got back to me to sort it out and i didn't chase it up because by that time it was too late for what i needed the money for and ended up just getting a quick loan from my sister until payday.
