  • Yippee nearly pay day and time to hit the spreadsheets :T but also :mad:to that moment earlier today when I realised my lovely thermos flask of coffee was hotter on the outside than the inside- meaning my lovely coffee was cold and I had to very grudgingly hand over £1.20 for a cuppa :rotfl: Now searching for a bargainous replacement flask!

  • I am also in the market for a new flask! I think a charity shop would have a lot. I want to reduce the amount of plastic cups I use when I get a coffee with my boyfriend.

  • Hi Tropically, thanks for popping by. Charity shop for a new flask is a good call. Will have a look on Saturday morning and see if I can find one :rotfl: Just about to start some batch cooking of lasagne plus some cakes for lunch boxes next week. Need to keep plugging away at reducing food spends. Meter readings have been submitted for energy supplier switch so hoping that will all be finalised very soon, resulting in a lower monthly payment for gas and elec :T Happy Friday everyone.

  • Hi Chumpy,

I hope your son is settling... Freshers seems to be a really long fortnight.

I haven't spoken to my daughter much due to our holiday and poor internet ... and to be honest I'd have broken down. I still was tearful the last few days.

She is in halls and shares the kitchen with 8... they seem a friendly bunch and she had chatted to a few on facebook before she started. I worry as she's quite innocent and didn't go out.. and now it's full on.

Hi MFD, it is so difficult isn't it. This is our third son to go to uni but am still not hardened to it. Unfortunately it hasn't worked out at all for DS3 and we had to collect him yesterday. We have managed to secure a transfer to a more local uni which hopefully will suit him better. He is very upset but hopefully this will be a better option for him. Don't want to say too much but fingers crossed.

DS1 is off tomorrow to start his Masters, so next week will be DH, DS4 and me :( I think we will feeling a little bit sorry for ourselves!!

Am currently investigating Offset Mortgages with FD. From a first read through of the literature it seems like this could work really well for us. It will depend on their requirements however, as DH is self-employed. Fingers crossed.

  • that must be the best decision for him... my DD said she'd give it until xmas.. but hopefully she seems to be settling... it's me who's not. :(

Good luck to DS1..... chin up x

Thanks so much MFD. Just back from delivering DS1. Having a cup of tea and a little sniffle :( So glad to hear your DD is settling and enjoying herself. Does make it a little easier for us when we know they're happy. Not long till Christmas and we'll all be together again :xmassmile

Just gathering myself together to have a review of accounts following pay day shuffle. Trying to sell benefits of NSDs to DH and explain to him, yet again, the concept of an offset mortgage :rotfl:

Car tax and mot yesterday - good bye £120 but at least covered by car savings pot so not too painful. Really pleased MOT has no problems as very old car bought as run around for me and DS3 to share when he passed his test. Well done little car :j 19p TTd this morning, and that little pot is up and running again for the month. What with the £2.37 soon winging its way from TCB, we'll be done in no time :rotfl: If I get home in time tonight will sort out my OP, but still reliant on being able to ring the bank so we will see. Have a good day everyone

Not much to report today. 12p TT this morning. NSD which is always :T Paid the CC bill but money was sitting ready for transfer so that wasn't too painful and also earned Te*co clubcard points on the spending. Yummy hm chicken curry for dinner with the added bonus of it being made by DH who worked from home today. All in all - a good day :)

  • It is a shame it didn't work out for DS3 but very wise to make the move swiftly. No point prolonging the agony. Good luck to you all xx
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D
