Hello all
My friend is living in a student flat and wants to lock his bedroom door when out and I am trying to help him find a way to lock it. Heres a photo of the door.

If anyone has any links to products that I could use I would be most grateful.

Something like this. Oops can't post a link but search a well know online marketplace beginning with A and search IRONMONGERY WORLD® CHROME BATHROOM TOILET CUPBOARD BARREL DOOR LOCK BOLTS STRAIGHT AND CRANKED AND SCREW (4" INCH/100MM NECKED)0
-
thanks, you mean this?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/IRONMONGERY-BATHROOM-CUPBOARD-STRAIGHT-CRANKED/dp/B01ALQ12GI
But how do you put a padlock though it?? What type of pad lock ie size (a link would be better) would fit that above? and where would it be inserted into the door bolt?
Remember this is for the outside of a door to lock from the outside.
how about this?

would this work on the outside of the bedroom door looking at the pic of the outside of the bedroom door and would it lock the outside of the bedroom door?
Dont want to mess with the door handle.0 -
I wouldn't use one of those combination ones as it will make it very easy for someone to lock you IN your bedroom should they wish! You need a bolt that a padlock will attach to so you can leave the LOCKED padlock on the bolt when it is open so it cannot be used against you.
Google Search for Padlock Bolt0 -
Just change the door handle - to one with a keyhole in it - and have a lock inserted into the door internally (instead of the metal doorcatch type thing that will be there currently).
I've had a workman do that for me on a couple of internal doors in my house - so that I can use the key I got with this and lock the doors to those rooms if I wish to.0 -
As already suggested, a bolt will do but at the risk of someone locking you in if its left in the wrong position - I have a 'hasp' on my shed with a padlock but as you can see from the link below there are some with keylocks built-in.

I'm intrigued to know why you'd want to have locking internal doors.0 -
I'm intrigued to know why you'd want to have locking internal doors.
My neighbour runs a small business and has important paperwork and often ome cash at home. Although there is a safe in his bedroom he has a lock on the door as his two 20-something sons often have friends round.
He tells me that he doesn't expect anything to happen but 'what if' something went missing...
He has the same handles as all the other doors upstairs but his bedroom has a locking latch - similar to this link. You don;t really notice that it is any different to the others

Or, as seems likely from the OP, this is a shared house split into rooms rented out seprately. In that instance I would DEFINITELY want to lock my door as you could maybe trust your house mates but what about their mates?0 -

They look massive for just a bedroom door, would that work on a bedroom door? maybe there is a small version of one of those?
Heres more pics of door

For £11 this might be an easy option.
It looks like it would replace the existing round door knob. It has a key lock on the outside and a simple turner on the inside for security when inside the room (if required)
This would also probably not require any extra holes in the door if that is a problem with the landlord etc and the existing one can easily be put back at the end of the lease.

hope this helps0 -
We tried to install one of those but it didnt fit, so dont want to go down that route again with the door handle, so need something like a bolt. We fitted a bolt on the door but there was no where to put the pad lock to lock it closed. So took it off. So maybe there is a different type of door bolt that would accept a padlock or something similar.0
