I insert a 'special' rule (I use #99) to bar my own mobile. If that works, I assume the whole table has been successfully sent.

I then overwrite Rule #99 with a duplicate of Rule #02.

I changed my 01 routing table to route calls through 18185 at the weekend instead of through BT. I then phoned a number and listened for the 0p per minute message.

Then I changed it back again. All seems to be working well using my laptop. I will try my PC later but I was having difficulty getting the lead in as the modem was sitting a little too far over towards the metal plate.

I have tried with my PC now and having problems.

    1. What happens - I hear a single click from the modem but mothing else.

    2. What, if any, errors are displayed - None

    3. What make and model of modem do you have - Motorola SM56 Speakerphone Modem

    4. Is it internal or external -internal

    5. Is it serial or USB - uses PCI card

    6. Can you use it successfully for anything else - Yes can connect to a dial up provider. I hear nothing from the modem until it connects with ISP and then I hear the usual noises of the two computers talking to each other.

The modem is connected to a telephone extension and not the Orchid directly. I have also dialled a telephone number with the modem - no tones are heard but modem does appear to dial as it connects to number dialled.

When I use my laptop with its own internal modem dial tones are clearly heard.

This is not a major problem as I can use the laptop but it would be easier to use the PC if possible.

There is a good chance that the internal card has no speaker of its own, it may well be dialling but with nothing to hear externally.

The click suggests that the modem is responding, so I would try plugging another phone in to the same extention at the same time as the modem and listening while you dial a test number - you should be able to hear the tones through the handset.

    OK tried that.

When the modem dials an ISP I can hear the tones via the phone handset.

When I use the Excel spreadsheet I hear 2 quick clicks from the PC but nothing from the phone handset.
  • OK

Download the test version of the spreadsheet from the link in the first post of this thread.

    Configure your com port appropriatly.

Hit the 'reset modem' button on the top right of the sheet

    Re-try your test.

Let me know how you get on.

and just to be clear, for anyone else following the process who might not share Jems level of experience, the 'phone handset needs to be plugged in to the same side of the V4 as the modem - if it is on the BT side the v4 will prevent the programming tones getting that far.

If I figure out a way to do it neatly within the forum I will try & sketch a connection diagram for fault finding.

    OK I tried that.

I just get two quick clicks but nothing more.
  • Right, I'll need a bit more info to try & get to the bottom of this.1st, which Com port does the modem appear on?2nd, can you turn on logging for the modem, run a test dial to your ISP and then a test run of the spreadsheet, and then send me a copy of the resulting log.You get to the log from windows control panel -> Phone and modem options -> 'modems' tab, select your modem -> click properties -> 'diagnostics' tab -> tick the 'append to log' option. OK, then run your tests -> back in to the diagnostics tab and click view log, copy and paste the results.SInce we have tried the options that have worked for others, I do not know exactly where the problem is at the moment so I can't promise that I can fix it but I will have a go.

Log shows the connection to the ISP but shows nothing when using the spreadsheet.

Here is the log for the ISP connection.

  • Can you tell me which com port the modem is on please - I want to get you to run a test but it will be easier to describe if I know which com port we are talking about up front.

Also, which OS are you running?
