    Please, can I ask how I find the root on the flash drive?
    It lists,
    a Locale folder
    autorun icon
    autorun icon
    The Locale folder contains 25 items. I can't see root named as such.
    Other than that, to quote the Steve McQueen joke, "So far so good!"

    ^ No idea but if you're trying to run mint from a flash drive the previously mentioned rufus is good. I've got linux puppy on a usb drive so it can't be that hard.

    In GNU, the root of a flash drive will be in whichever directory you mounted it to.

    This is the point I'm stuck at from "Always" response.

    Norman, when I went to the Rufus link in Always post, it appeared in the form which his/hers showed, and I followed those instructions.
    Your own link looks promising, but is different.
    esuhl, I'm sorry, I don't know about mounting to directories.

    Whatever drive letter the flash drive has been assigned by Windows that is the root directory.

    So if it appears as (E:) the root the root will be E:\.

    In other words if you open the drive through the control panel the folder that opens will be the root directory. As it's bootable you might have to right click and select open rather than double clicking it. I'm not sure.

    The "root" directory is just the top-level directory. On windows, it would be e:\ or which everdrive letter has been assigned to the drive.

    Just drop them into empty space, not in any of the folders. :)

    Thanks guys. Via "computer", it is called USB Disk (J:), so I will have a go at pasting the three opened items into same, and see what happens.
