Beware - People's Postcode Lottery!

I once looked into joining this lottery, but the thing that deterred me was the fact that some of the prizes come in the form of holidays. That set alarm bells ringing, as this type of prize is frequently used by the companies that post unsolicited scratchcards through your letter box, and ask you to phone a premium-rate number to claim. You win a holiday with no cash alternative, so you either take it or lose it.
I have seen plenty of the Postcode Lottery ads on TV, where the winners are waving large cheques about, but have yet to see them showing someone winning a holiday. Probably because the winner would look disappointed. After all, people subscribe to these things in the hope of winning cash. A holiday, no matter how splendid, won't pay the bills.0 -
BE VERY AWARE OF POSTCODE LOTTERY !
Went to cancel my subscription today online and there is no where on their website to access your account. So went on to a live chat to ask where has the login to account link gone.
Apparently it has been off the website for some WEEKS for an "upgrade" to the software. And their agent had no idea of when it will be back. Neither did their phone agent when I phoned later.
In IT terms (my background) this is a joke to say for an UPGRADE over weeks. An upgrade replaces a current version normally, and in most IT shops it is almost transparent to the user it has happened. No interruption of the feature.
If they have had to remove the original login suggests to me they have security holes in their original, and hence it couldn't be left up. Very dodgy for a company handling people's/my money!
I've now cancelled by phone now.0 -
I too signed up but after not winning anything in months i sent them an email to cancel.
Oh no you can't do that, they accept anyone to sign up online but won't allow you to cancel online or via email. They said it's a security measure. :rotfl:
They are just another company that is making it easy for them to get at your money but hard for you to stop them taking it.
More worryingly even though i am supposedly paying by direct debit there is no direct debit showing in my bank account. Normally i can see every direct debit on my account and there is a cancel button at the side, but not in the case of PPL.
It just shows on the statement every month. They want me to ring them to cancel so they can record my voice as a matter of security. Well it's going to be an interesting recording i can tell you. How do they know the person ringing is you.
There so called security sucks big time, there is no security at all. They also said I agreed to their terms and conditions, i would like to see proof of that because all they have is a computer ip address and i can make mine show as anywhere in the world. An ip address relates to a computer not a person.
So as long as someone has access to your card and knows your address they can sign you up to this and anyone who has those details could also cancel your tickets. That's how good their security is.
An SMS security confirmation would be a good start.
I will be ringing my bank first thing in the morning to put a block on these so called direct debits. :mad:0 -

It sounds like you have a Continuous Payment Authority on your account, so no direct debit is in place."The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money"0 -
Even if your have signed up via a DPA your bank MUST cancel it if you ask them to, by law, no more of this "we cant do that" but you just have to tell PPL that you have done it...
I also think the chances of you winning a fortune are terrible, you think of how many postcodes are in 1 street alone...... I think a postcode is issued to approx 10 houses, we have nearly 200 in our street so thats 20 postcodes in one street alone, so how many is there in the UK, and when they do the European Postcode lottery your chances are even less. and the money you pay, how much does go to the charities? say £100 out of every £500 (for example) where does the other £400 go, lining someones pocket I bet..... and someof these new ones that have sprung up the first thing I do is go to their website and find out from their terms & conditions or privacy statements where they are based, so they don't even fall under our laws in UK........
steer well clear, support something like I do, our local Air Ambulance they do a lottery every month you can win £1k and the rest goes to the Air Ambulance, a very worthy cause and your odds are a lot better than the PPL or even Camelot...The Looney o:EasterBunf Loughborough..0 -
Hi, I signed up fop PPL last month but didn't want them to retain my card number (which I had to put in in order to play for the month), when filling in the page it did say I could skip that page and they wouldn't retain my card details but if I won they would need to contact me for my bank details still I thought that's okay I wouldn't mind if they contacted me.
On the understanding that they wouldn't retain my card details I was very surprised to find that they had and were in the process of taking anther 10.35 from my account.....so very annoyed.
I phoned them and cancelled anymore payments after Jan 2015.
I find it appalling that they say they won't retain your card details but they do.
I will be going into my bank to instruct them not to allow anymore payments made after Jan 20150 -
Has anyone managed to get the free voucher code....(a free gift from PPL ) to get up to 6 magazine issues in association with great magazines.co.uk? I have tried numerous times to no avail. It's awful if they are not who they say they are, most people, me included are desperate for a win.0

I received my first free magazine last week...I had the same last year as well.0

How do you manage that bird? I have messaged greatmagazines.co.UK. But they keep saying that the code is wrong even though it's the one that the peoples postcode lottery sent me.0
