Details here http://www.freeyear.bt.com/ but you have to sign a 18 month contract.

Where as you can get same thing from MSE Martins recommendation Primus Saver 2 ,no time limit, no contract.

IIRC, the BT offer was to transfer you from BT Together Option 1 to BT Together Option2 and to credit you the £3.95 per month charge for the first 12 months (the idea appears to be to switch your package in the hope you forget it's a time-limited offer and continue paying).

A better option if you have a BT line is to sign up for Primus Saver Option 2 CPS (free evening and weekend calls of up to 90 minutes to UK 01/02 numbers for no monthly fee).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
