What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.

Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in life!

Right now the thread is looking very quiet...but please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include some mention of flying.

[/B] Thank you Natty for last week's thread.

Please follow the forum rules on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should have some Flylady-related (ooh a compound adjective) content!

The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the wagon!

Every room comes back around next week so please don’t stress about catching up

These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.

Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.

A few of the basics before we start the week

Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!

Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.

Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis

HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
WM ~ Washing machine
TD ~ Tumble dryer
SC ~ Slowcooker
BM ~ Breadmaker
DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its potential!
MAD half hour
- Mad is the abbreviation for Make A Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth bridge (ie never-ending - or just huge) task but that you work on it in half-hour bursts. This way you know you ARE stooping, and that you won't get it finished but you will make a difference - so it might be clearing out - the garage or shed, or clothes sorting, or weeding - you get the picture - but rather than keep going until you've lost the will to live you do half an hour...but, eventually those half hours will get the job done!

Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

    Notice it's NOT the kitchen?

Work tomorrow - job 2 - office job - looks to run for another 8 weeks at least as colleague still off sick. By the time she comes back I'll be fully trained - and if she doesn't, hopefully I'll be up for consideration for permanent!

Me too please! Thanks for the thread, as always. I'm definitely duly scared and quivering - the mere sight of all those Christmas trees at the end of the last thread was enough to send me running for the hills. Well as far as the kettle anyway.;)

Catch you all in the morning.

I'm still around, lurking but keeping up with some things plus lots of work. Busy weekend with my brother staying, great but eats up time. My mum arriving tomorrow and bil Wed for friend's funeral. Then move on back to usual life. . . Aagh how did Christmas sneak up? Thanks for lists.

    Ahhh...cheese and pesto sarnie...yum!

Sorry, got distracted! I'm in this week, despite the Christmas trees and dire warning. Thanks for lists ladies x

150 tree whips planted today with the splendid help of our very lovely NDNs. We definitely owe them a drink. I've just got to water them and keep them alive (the trees, not the neighbours) for the next few years. This will be a challenge as I have killed a cactus in the past

So much planned for this coming week. Lots to do, clean, sort, fling, buy and paint. I have cleared my ironing basket in preparation. However, I have about a dozen odd socks. Why? Surely they go in the wash at the same time as their partner! Does my washing machine eat socks? I've thrown some away that I know Tiny will have grown out of, so can bin the others, if and when they appear.

    Sorry, got distracted again...

Thank you Natty for last week's lovely lists and thank you Valli for this week's.

Busy day tomorrow as have breakfast with a friend and physio at 1pm, managed quite a few toots this weekend:

    1. Gifted ottoman, recovered and in hall as shoe box (even added lovely dimonte detail to top!)

    2. Old shoebox dismantled (broke when stupid next door neighbour sat on it) bagged up for rubbish

    3. DD's old toybox bought downstairs and painted grey to match dining room (just need to cover with wallpaper to match dining room)

    4. Dining room wall painted grey (this has taken me two days and is only really half a wall as bottom is tongue and groove)

This week BIG TOOTS ..... wallpaper dining room wall and paint staircase

    5. I'm one step ahead as have done all my ironing tonight

dog has fleas so had to deflea her, house, all her bedding/toys are in the washing machine on 95 degree wash with white vinegar and zoflora, haven't stopped itching all night

    onwards and upwards
  • Morning flyfriends x
I'm in again as much as I can be.
Thanks to Valli and Natty for the lists.

Got a pretty full week this week
    Monday Dancing
Wednesday Dancing, pick up parcel at marksies, pick up ballet shoes too.
    Thursday Pom competition team
Saturday Dr Lisa Ellis workshop and private
    Sunday Jazz competition team
I'm knackered just thinking about it and I don't have to dance:o At least I'm ahead (or am I behind) my bed was done yesterday. Will do the rest of the list when I get home.
Off for a shower, I might feel nearly human afterwards.
    Laters xxx
    I'm not a muggle...I'm just magically challenged
  • I'm back again this week, despite not finding that much time to post last week I did manage to stay up to date with keeping house tidy (the parts that I have got tidy still loads to do). Off to a good start as bedroom windows already open and bed turned back. I'll have breakfast in a minute then go back up and finish round the bedroom and bring down a load of laundry, another area that I am on top of thanks to you lovely lot.
Big big success last week was actually getting round to starting big admin frog I have, documents ordered so that is now underway, it will involve lots more work but actually working out where to start and starting was the biggest challenge. Also managed to get rid of another task that had been hanging over me for far too long and it wasn't even as difficult as I thought it would be.
My bedroom is tidy and so I'm going to try and knock DD1s room into shape, she sorted stuff a few weeks ago when she was home so I need to take that to charity and get rid of rubbish then clean round, bed was stripped and all washed etc last week.
Time to Fly, breakfast is calling, catch you all later.

    Don't forget to SMILE
  • Morning ladies,

Thanks so much for the lists ladies I am in :)

Fell out with DH last night :( we've made friends now but still feel unsettled. I hate arguing.

Got up at 5.30 as absolutely loads to do today. We are all dressed, I've had a shower :j and am wearing CLEAN leggings :j:j

Towel wash on and DW unloaded. After school runs have two hours admin to do before I go volunteering then visit friend in hospital. Must buy small gift to take him, he loves snacks so I'm thinking some nice bits like posh crisps.

DDs year at school have to take a bottle in today for bottle tombola, I'm taking Robinsons squash, DH thinks I'm tight for not taking wine!

Piggers, I really hope you feel brighter today love. And you too YL. Have a hug from me and please visit the docs if you think the BD is back Piggers xx

Right, breakfast then must put make up on xx

    Morning all

Thank you for the lists, Valli and Natty. I'm in as much as I can be this week, but I must get my essay finished. I managed 117 words yesterday :( but it is beginning to fall into place.

This morning I have a routine clinic appointment and will take my car to have its wheel alignment checked en route to the horse piddle.
Rosie has her class this afternoon. I aim to pop her in the car early, drive to the woods and let her run off some energy, and then take her to class.

Back later... Hope everyone has a good day x
