how important is it for me to blanch these runner beans before I freeze them. I could really do with a "it'll be fine" attitude. I will accept the recommendations
    either way tho.

(I have prepared them and sliced them etc)

    TIA

Well I have always blanched mine. This year seems is a bumper crop already , but I will resist freezing to many ,to be honest I prefer Birds eye peas.

Runner beans fresh is a delight ,but give me peas in December.

  • I never blanch mine I just slice and open freeze. Blanching alters the taste IMO. I have never had a problem in 25 years

I don't blanch nor open freeze. I just prepare and put straight in a bag and freeze. The don't seem to freeze together and if they do a quick tap on the worktop sorts that out.

All further crops I pick, I just add to the already frozen ones.

Same here, never had a problem doing them this way. :)

I'm pleased I didn't blanch them last night now. I left them prepared to face this morning. I will just bag them up and freeze them now.

    Thanks very much everybody.

Done it both ways - and tbh I couldnt detect any difference in flavour. I only do it if the beans seem a bit dirty or dusty or if there were lots of tiny bugs on the plants - just to ensure that they are clean going into the freezer! stupid really as they would be going into boiling water when they come out!!!!!!!!!!
