Hi from someone from the old thread .

Not been online much as been walking the walk and talking the talk

Ivyleaf dd was on Omeprazole for many years but had problems when the dose was increased .
Our Dr prescribed Lansoprazole 30mg gastro-resistant capsules as an alternative and the problems she was having stopped quickly .
May be worth discussing with your GP unless you've already tried them'

Lillibet Re Methotrexate I assume you will be on the folic acid 5mg a day apart from MTX day . DD was really struggling over the past few months , her low energy levels hit the floor and hair and skin suffered badly .
Our GP increased the folic acid ( after discussion with the hospital consultant ) to 5mg x2 .
It has worked well for her both energy and mood wise . Her hair condition has improved and although she has hair loss it has slowed and her hair has returned to it's old shiny self .
Could be worth speaking to whoever manages your care . We live many miles from the hospital so our wonderful GP operates shared care .

To all struggling with hair loss for various reasons there are ways to minimise the damage . Treat it kindly and avoid chemicals if you can . I had a brief flirtation with semi permanent dyes at the hairdressers in the late 80s . The 3rd session they applied a permanent by mistake and I never did it again . Strangely in my late sixties I have a lot of my natural strawberry blonde and the odd greys aren't really noticeable .

Skin , Hair and Nails from H&B works well for me . I never use a hair dryer these days as it hurts to do so .
I wash and condition my hair the evening before a day out and use a brush which contains microfibres as it dries naturally . That speeds up the drying and smooths the hair .
Next morning a quick spritz of heat protector and a few minutes with the rotating hot brush and I'm good to go.

Apologies to BB your eyes have no doubt glazed over :rotfl:

    Take care all .
    polly x

Ivyleaf I wondered if you were talking about omeprazole as I have the same problem i.e. hair falling out. Been taking the meds for years, now have a hairline receded by at least an inch round my head like a wide Alice band. I have tried to stop taking it but get terrible heartburn without. Even tried taking alternative (ranitidine) but still had the heartburn. GP offered me an NHS wig :-( :rotfl:
Worries like this do seem minor compared with survival, but are very real.

I used to suffer horrendous heart burn,I cut out wheat..........never had heartburn since.Tried eating it again and heartburn returned.

    :) Haircare..... hmmmm.

I comb mine in the morning, wash it every 5th day, towel dry it and re-arrange the resultant mess with a comb. Start to finish it's a 5 minute job. Hack it about with a sharpened clamshell every few weeks to keep it out of my eyes.

Pretty sure this isn't a haircare regime in any accepted sense of the phrase, more like a lazymare regime, but it looks pretty good on it.

;) Top tip; let your white hairs come through naturally and then you can have a few years of streaky hair without having to faff around - or spend money - which is very MSE.

BB, if you want to share skull-maintenance tips with us girlies.........? Mr Sheen or Pledge? Polishing with trad yellow duster or a microfibre cloth? Eager minds (and me, the p-artist) wanna know.:rotfl:

:) I second that. Lots of people tolerate wheat very poorly. I've just been diagnosed with celiac disease and am definately giving up wheat.

Have to say that I suffered with heartburn badly, particularly waking me up in the wee small hours of the morning, I've found that since I stopped eating so many carbs, particularly bread, cereals, flour etc. I've been free from it which is pretty amazing. If I do have bread on the very odd occasion I try for 100% rye bread which I can get at a Polish Shop in the city which not only tastes wonderful but doesn't set me off.

I wanna be in the room where it happens

:) Thanks, VJsMum, but I'm far from distraught about it, totally relaxed, in fact. It's good to have the answer to the symptoms and to know it's fixable by diet (and only fixable by diet) so's I'm not going to have to take meds.

Happily, I live alone, so don't have to address other people's dietary needs on a daily basis, only when socialising or with the family. I've told Mum (lifelong martyr to digestive issues and on some of the meds named upthread) to ask her GP to test her for celiac as there is a 1 in 10 chance she has it if I have it.

Cooking at home from simple, wholesome ingredients will be life-affirming and is actually very MSE.;)

Mar, you can always join in when you do feel up to it. And Fuddle, you're a star!

Thanking about how we should go about this: probably we should take a chunk of pages each - say, 50 each to start with - read through them & copy & paste all practical, relevant tips into a Word/Open Office/Pages document. Then send them all to one of us to collate; I don't mind doing this, as I'm using a Mac & WP-type things are very much easier than I ever found them on a PC! There'll be a spot of editing as things will need to be put into specific topics, in order for the resulting post/document/page to make sense. Does that make sense so far?

Count me in! Just back from holiday (in the rain, didn't pick the best week to go walking!) and am ready for new challenges! If someone would like to allocate me a batch of pages and tell me who to send them to, then happy to help.

I reckon it should be Mrs LW or thriftwizard who allocate the pages, whichever gets here first :):):)

I'd also like to suggest doing 5 pages first (of our allocated 50), of whatever we're allocated, to test the waters, so to speak ... hope I'm not overcomplicating things.
