Running Cost

Hi All.

Im new here so Hello!

Can any body tell/show/point me to and calculation for working out the running cost of an electrical item.
My supplier says i need to give them a reading run the item for an hour then give a second reading. Basic or what!!
This is all well but i dont own the item yet and its rather expensive and i want 4 or 5 of them.

The numbers are
600watts
15.494p pk/Wh
24 hours a day

I cannot find an online calculator that lets me enter all 3 and come up with a £.
After 1 hour on the phone to 2 advisers they said i have to run it for 1 hour as they cant answer it. I cant bring myself to believe this as it seems such a basic question.

Please help experts and all.

Thanks

The watts figure given is usually indicative of themaximum per hour draw of the appliance. Ie if you have it on for an hour it will draw 600 watts.

There are 1000 watts in a kilowatt so it would be 0.6kw x 15.494p.

= 9.29964 pence per hour to run.

Edit, if you want the daily cost multiply it by 24 hours.

    or use this.

    Welcome to the forum.

A 600watts 'item' is 0.6kW and if it ran for 1 hour using the 0.6kW the whole time it would use 0.6kWh(units) and at a cost of 15.494p/kWh would cost 9.29p to run; for 24 hours £2.23.

However you don't say what the 'item' is(why?). Many electrical items have a thermostat so are not running all the time(e.g. a Fridge) so it is impossible to calculate costs.

    What is the item?

spadoosh figures would apply for say a heater but if it was an oven it would, once its up to temperature, run on its thermostat and its costs would be much less.
Never pay on an estimated bill
  • Great Stuff.

Its a growing lamp for flowers.
There is no thermostat on the ballast.

    Thanks

Depends where you live and your annual consumption. But generally about 12p/kWh can be found. and the Daily Standing Charge will vary considerably.

    Use a comparison website.
