How do I convert cubic meters into kWh– HELP huge Gas bill!!!!

Hi all,

Would someone be able to tell me how I convert cubic meters into kWh????? I have just moved into my flat (2 months) and I received my second monthly gas bill yesterday and it’s come in @ £90 (for one month) which I think is HUGE for a two bedroom semi dethatched flat!!!! I’ve been taking daily readings and it looks like we are using 4-5 Cubic Meters a day, is that a lot??? We have a Vaillant combi boiler and use gas heating, gas hob and obviously gas to hot the water. We have the heating @ 6am – 8am then 5.30pm – 10pm everyday, does £90 a moth seem a lot to you????

Thanks for your help,

Aaron

    Approx 1 unit = 11kwh.

44-55kwh a day seems great to me - we're using twice that now (3 bed house).

I suppose obvious questions are, are the meter readings accurate on the statement? Or are they estimated? And the temp for the heating - how long it's on for is one thing, how high you have it is another.

It is approx 11.5kWh for 1 unit(cubic metre)

    So 55 to 65kWh a day - £2 ish a day.

Certainly not high in mid winter.

In 5 hrs I used 7.09 units = 79.28 kwh at setting on thermostat at 18. I am right now asking BG to check the meter, but they are refusing. What can I do? I have had a Corgi guy around this morning, he tested the boiler - everything fine , thermostat fine, no gas leaks from meter. He reckons it is the meter. Sometimes it uses 2 1/2 units in a hour.

When you say units, what units? Imperial or metric.

Have a look at your meter. If it is metric it will have M3 on it.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
