Chillier here too ellsbel.:( I've put a navy Jack Wills sweatshirt on with jeans and will probably need a jacket or at least a cardi as well when I go out later. The sweatshirt has lacy sleeves so not as thick as usual ones.

I've been quite good with fabbing this morning. This is generally the time of year when I stop looking after my feet and legs properly but so far I'm keeping it up. So defuzzing, moisturising and still using a bit of tanning cream.

In yesterday's paper there was a discussion about what's fashionable for legs. Many of those seen around the fashion shows are still sticking to bare legs even at this time of the year, others wearing sheer tights but not nude. Suggestion was that opaques should be either just 30 denier or go the whole hog and wear thick wool or cotton mix. I think bare legs is OK if you go everywhere in a taxi but not so good for public transport or walking down the street. The flesh coloured look that Kate wears was criticised as a bit frumpy but as everywhere she goes is a bit of a formal occasion then bare legs probably wouldn't be acceptable.

I thought of you when watching that diabetes programme LL. It was really scary. I couldn't believe that woman having the amputation was in her fifties. She looked 20 years older. The comfort eaters having bariatric surgery were sad too. It's only since joining SW that I've met people who have a psychological relationship with food. For me it was just a case of falling into poor habits and finding some will power and motivation but for them it did seem so linked with depression etc.

Going to get my nails done later. I feel I should have a break from shellac but it's a dilemma as they look so smart. I'll probably have them cut short as a compromise.

    Have a good day all.:)

    Hello lovely ladies.

I'm another one who wore a navy sweater today.....:rotfl:

Ellsbell....I think you're right, it's probably best to reduce carbs in stages rather than going at it bull at a gate. So stage 1 might be cutting out sugary stuff and then once you are comfortable with that, then stage 2 would be looking at reducing starches such as grains, white rice, potatoes and some of the starchier root vegetables.

Some people who try going too quickly have experienced what they call "carb flu" which can be a bit grim.

Apparently being diabetic is a bit like being an alcoholic. It's a lifetime thing. So yes the idea is to reduce blood sugars as quickly as possible but unfortunately you can't then go back to old habits. Alas, It's a lifetime of vigilance.

I agree though there seems to be a surprisingly large number of people who have issues around food.

I think there is also a shocking amount of ignorance, even among the medical profession. Most GPs have no training in nutrition and even some specialist diabetic nurses aren't really very knowledgeable about diet.

Although like most of us I tried to eat well and make wise food choices It was only when I actually got to see a nutritionist that I began to fully understand the role that Diet plays in health.

I think that programme was certainly a valiant attempt at shocking people into taking action but I think they missed a golden opportunity to give dietary advice. It did seem that they were just pushing bariatric surgery to save the NHS money.

I saw the end result of out control diabetes with my mum. I know I am genetically at risk but I not going down that route. Mum developed full blown diabetes in her early 50s. I am 65 and am just starting to struggle with sugar levels so I am lucky in that I have had that extra 15 years.

However, I am not complacent, that programme was my wake up call. Time for me to get serious. I have not touched anything sugary since. I even threw some chocolate away.........

On a lighter note, tomorrow is Fab Friday. I shall be out and about so will dress nicely.

    Morning :hello:

Will be fab-fridaying today in skinny jeans, white converse high-tops, a blue & pink paisley silky tunic, a light pink glittery zip-up cardi and a plain pale blue scarf. DH has to go into his HO so will have a mooch at Cheshire Oaks, then we're off to the Trafford Centre for lunch & crockery-shopping. We know how to live!

That sounds really pretty floss. What sort of crockery are you buying?

I've been thinking about shoes/footwear after my comments about legs yesterday. Obviously that all applies if you're wearing a skirt. With jeans/trousers I've been thinking about what to wear between sandals and boots at this time of the year. With high tops you can wear socks underneath but what about ordinary Converse (or similar)? I see so many people wearing either just those little liner things or nothing. I'm worried about cold ankles.:D Any thoughts?

I'm going to wear the same navy sweatshirt as yesterday. It's not that I'm dirty but I always change into 'house clothes' when I get home so an outfit can stand a few wears usually. I'll do my make up and spray perfume and feel fab!.....even though I'm only going food shopping.;)

What about some ankle boots?. Mine sit just on the ankle and don't 'feel' like boots, if you know what I mean. I've even worn them with a dress, which is difficult to pull off when you are 5ft!!!

I've had some rushing around today. I picked up the curtains and hung them, although I had to pop back out to get extra curtain hooks. I also went to Costco and bought an autumn jacket. It's grey, padded and sits on the hips. I've been on the look out for a light jacket for ages and this fits the bill, although it's very much a practical item.

Maman I have some red regular Converse too, in summer I wear liners but when it's chillier I wear striped or star-print socks :) The crockery is to go on our new table when we entertain, we wanted porcelain but it obviously is out of fashion! We need to rethink now, but bought cutlery instead :D

    Hello Ladies,

It is cold in London now, so my central heating went on yesterday. On Monday it was so hot in London, I was wearing a short sleeve t-shirt and now I have to wrap up in layers, hat, gloves and scarf.

I have a horrible cold, but I still went to work, as we have a half term for 2 weeks coming up, so I need to work for the 1st 2 weeks of October. Hopefully I will soon be feeling a whole lot better.

    Good afternoon lovely ladies.

Getting colder here too, making good use of my new coatigans, they make great "inbetweeners" for when you need an extra layer but aren't ready to wear a coat yet.

Good news - I have lost a lb this week - well since Wednesday really. After watching that diabetes programme which scared the living daylights out of me I have been vigilant......no sweet stuff, and other than Friday when I had some oven fish and chips, I have not touched any starchy carbs.

I have not even been tempted. All I have to do is think about those visions of leg amputations and gangrenous feet and my carb cravings just disappear. ;)

Bought a nice car for DS2 yesterday and I now have his so I am once again a car owner. I did try going car free and gave it 3 months but I did miss the spontaneity of being able to just nip out whenever I wanted.

Having a bit of A cleaning day today and just going to repot a couple of new saplings I picked up this week. Garden looking neat and tidy now ready to be "put to bed" for winter.

Right time to get cracking. Have a fab weekend.

    Hello Ladies,

Still got my cold, but did not allow that to interfere with my plans for the weekend. I went to celebrate the 14th Birthday of one of my great nieces yesterday in her home. :)

I had a really good time. Good music, great food and good conversation with my Sister and 2 nieces. :j The teenage friends of my great niece had a great time and her younger sister who is only 7 did her best to be the centre of attention. :p

I wore a red sleeveless top, black long pull on skirt, red waterfall cardigan, black scarf and hat with my black leather gloves and my black patent leather Van Dal sling back shoes. No make up or nail polish, but lots of perfume. I was carrying my every day black leather handbag and my patent leather Playboy tote bag.

The weather has turned warm again in London which I am glad of as I am going out tonight, hopefully to have a really good time dancing my legs off. :)

It's nice and bright here too sugarbaby and about 14 degrees. I didn't expect you to let your cold stop you having a good time.;)

:T on losing that pound LL. Hope you have a good week coming up.:) Any progress with the bungalow? I'd love to see pics.

Despite this I decided that it's officially the end of summer here so I've sorted through my clothes and put away all the summery stuff.:( Since I did MK on my drawers and wardrobes it really is much easier to get through it. I'm not sure I absolutely love everything I have but I'm getting there. A few bits are off to the CS on my next trip and I'm going to monitor carefully that I wear the things I've kept. Obviously some will only be worn occasionally as they're for occasions but I do seem to still have rather a lot.:o

Thanks for the advice on shoes/socks/boots. I have ankle boots chanie but was hoping not to have to wear them yet but I think it's time and any purchase of Coverse or similar can wait until the spring. I do love the idea of pretty socks though floss. I tend to wear plain black all the time.

Although I've got a set of 'best' crockery it only comes out on high days and holidays. If I'm honest just at Christmas. All the rest of the time I have plain, white bone china. The majority of it comes from Wilkos although I have added bits from TKMaxx and I saw some the other day in Home Bargains.

That's a basic set but you can buy pieces individually and add other things. I've got some lovely pasta bowls
    http://www.wilko.com/all-dinnerware/wilko-best-pasta-bowl-bone-china-white-large/invt/0308484
and acquired other things like a gravy boat and serving dishes along the way.

We have an octagonal (nips off to count number of sides;)) art deco table so I never use a cloth just brightly coloured table mats and napkins.

I went to a local town yesterday to return something to Argos for my DD. While I was there I just had to browse TKMaxx. As well as some towels I bought myself a lovely fine wool, red jumper. It'll be ideal for brightening up a dark jacket or wearing with my black pencil skirt.

Not much happening her today. DH is busy and has been out since before 8 o'clock so I'm ahead of myself. I've sorted the clothes, got some washing on the line and after lunch I plan to relax with a book. I find it really hard to do nothing but I'm going to force myself.
