Haggle on New Build House Price

Hey all,

Sorry am new to all this just wondering if any of you have some advice?

We're potentially about to reserve a plot on a new build development house expected to complete in February 2018. Can we haggle on the plot price at the stage of reserving the plot? After we pay the reservation fee are we then supposedly accepting the price of the plot and then locked into paying that plot/house price? If we can haggle what is potenitally acceptable?

Many thanks in advance for any guidance.

    Hung up my suit!
    Of course you can haggle!

Are you in a good position (cash buyer?). Is the site moving quickly? Even if the price seems to be fixed, its like buying a car - you can always argue for carpets, landscaping etc. etc.
Money won't buy you happiness....but I have never been in a situation where more money made things worse!

Thanks for the reply. We're not cash buyer will be taking out mortgage, they are moving pretty quickly though we're awaiting the last plot of the type of house we want to be released slap bang in the area we want it.

Would we haggle on the price/possible extras thrown in when they call to take the reservation fee and confirm plot price? Carpet and flooring are extras included already but more than happy to push to other bits.

If the properties are being sold quickly it is unlikely that the builder will give you anything. They will just wait for someone who doesn't haggle.

we tried to haggle on the development we subsequently reserved on. it's a very popular development in a nice area..... didn't get a thing and I love a good haggle too. you can but ask but if it's an in demand development don't expect much

Yes of course. Doesn't mean you'll get anywhere, as said depends on how they are selling.

Not "supposedly" , you are locked in unless you walk away and lose your deposit.

Don't be blinded by the fact it's a house, if you were buying a car you'd understand that you can haggle before agreeing a price and putting down a deposit but that after agreeing a price and paying a deposit the price is locked in.

And as another poster said as with a car where mats, upgrades etc are available you can always negotiate on things like carpets, wooden floors better kitchen or tiles etc.

P.s this mornings election results will likely aid you in your negotiations.
