Defaults - 6 years or 7???

I always thought defaults only stayed on your credit file for 6 years, but now somebody is telling me mortgage lenders look as far back as 7! Help! I was convinced I'd be able to finally buy a house in the New Year!

    6 years then they drop off your file.

    6 years and credit files can be updated every 3 months or so, so 6 years, 3 months to be on the safe side?
