HP notebook, problem with realtek adapter

Options
The title sounds like I know what I'm talking about but I'm don't so please bare with me

The laptop was purchased 15 months ago, it worked grand for just under a year, even had a windows 10 update and all was fine Out of nowhere it would disconnect from the wifi but if I restarted it would come back on, now a few months later it's not connecting at all.

I spent hours yesterday backing up, recovery and complete reset but it's not working. I have been using my mobile and google suggests its the realtek network adapter, and loads of people have had problems.

I've done everything the web has suggested but it's still not connecting wirelessly. So can anybody here help?

I'm currently sitting on a beanbag in the hallway connected by Ethernet to even get help or to be able to download anything.

During the reset I'm back to windows 8.1 if that makes any difference

Thanks in advance
Cate

Have you reset your router ??
Do other devices connect to the router ok .
Have you updated the network driver ??

Yep router was reset, my mobile, the sky etc is all connecting to wifi no problem

So when I'm in device manager page now, it's not the realtek adapter that has the yellow hazard sign it's now 'other devices' 'network controller'

I'm currently online - I just found if I went onto the HP website, it told me my computer and had a list of drivers I could download, so I've downloaded everything with the vain hope I can stay online.

I don't think it's probably the best fix, but I'm taking it for now, I've lost a day to this computer

    Thanks for your help though!!

Had a nightmare with mine - I think I ended up going to the Realtek site and downloading the driver for the chipset from there direct

I'm back on my mobile here, it worked grand until this past hour.

It seems a big issue by the looks of it online, is there no permanent fix?

    Hi

Problems with W8.X and W10 suggest it could be hardware related, because that is the common link.

So if you can open a command prompt as an administrator and type...

    getmac

this will list the mac addresses of the items you have.

    3 is a good number, 1 Ethernet, 1 Wi-fi and 1 BlueTooth.

    Typing

netsh wlan show drivers will show the driver currently installed.
netsh wlan show interfaces will show the interfaces available.

    You can try...

netsh wlan show settings will show the current settings.

From those I hope there are some clues as to the state of the adapter. To be better able to target any help.

Specific model number of the laptop would probably help greatly. ;)

I've done this, no idea what to look for though

At getmac, there are no numbers just three lines of physical address and transport name. Two say media disconnected

From the show drivers and show interface the only thing jumping out is hosted network status says not available
