  • Most of my supermarket shopping these days is at T*sco.

So I think there's probably more loose stuff there than in some other supermarkets. I hadnt thought re the weighing scales. I know I've used them before now to check pricing/quantities. I can't say I recall noticing them recently - must check next time I'm there.

    Afternoon everyone,

I have just had to dry myself off and change my clothes having got caught in torrential downpour walking home from my first ever Aldi trip with trolley. I am pleased to be able to say that trolley it totally waterproof :) Shame I'm not ;)

I like Aldi, I think I will be shopping there quite a lot, they are so much cheaper than the supermarkets that I have used prior to buying trolley. I think that having the trolley will totally change my shopping habits. I'm looking forward to the food spend for June being the lowest for a number of years :)

Breakfast this morning was banana pancakes.
Lunch has been a tuna and mayo sandwich with some salad (still using up the opened tin of tuna).
Dinner is going to be a small piece of sirloin steak that I found at the bottom of the outside chest freezer. I dread to think how long it has been lurking there, but I've defrosted it and it looks/smells ok and there is no freezer burn even, so I'm going to eat it. :) I'm going to have this with some potato wedges that were also in the freezer and mushrooms, grilled tomatoes and a small side salad.
Pudding will be a rhubarb crumble and cream.

It will be interesting to see if Aldi or Lidl reply to the tweets about loose veg. I didn't look at the fruit or veg in Aldi today because I didn't need any.

I always thought scales were a legal, not optional, requirement? They would of course be well hidden, but they need them for the online shopping pickers and YS pakers to weigh stuff up as well, like bunches of bananas

A thought about ready bagged, it also speeds up the on line shop pickers, they can just grab the top bag / packet, can't have staff wasting time & money individually putting carrots, spuds etc in a bag ;)

I suppose loose is often dearer because us rotten shoppers pick over the food and leave the manky ones behind for them to chuck away

It is alos a legal requirement to have price per g/kg/litre/ml on shelf edge. Of course SMs put this this in font size 6 if possible, you are not really supposed to look & check, and to help you get more confused the price is often shown in grammes or ml on the assumption you are incapable of mental arithmetic

Lidl do sell some loose veg, like cabbages, cucumbers and, oddly, nuts. Not carrots, good news PN, aubergine are loose and on offer next week from 15th :D , also loose bakers on offer 49p kg [or should that be 0.49p per gramme in SM speak ;)]?

It was Lidl this morning, just exciting stuff like bread & milk. No YS that I was interested in

    No breakfast

Lunch was cheese salad sarnie, followed by slice of brad & thick tangy marmalade 'cos I was still peckish

Dinner will be some LO pizza, with probably the loaded skins, give them a try, maybe some apple pie if I still fancy something, or the marmalade is getting near the bottom of the jar and may just need "using up"

Lunch: Chilli .... rice/peas. HUGE portion, just to try to get it over and done with. Two more huge portions to go. In total I'll have eaten it 4x by the time I've finished, but there was really 6 portions in the pot.

That's what happens when you try to use stuff up, sometimes you just load up .. and plod on .. knowing there will be fewer events to endure.

.... my first ever Aldi trip with trolley. ...
When it comes to winter/nearer to Christmas, don't forget that (once a year or so) it is allowable to put some of your "savings" you've made from having the trolley towards a one-way taxi trip from the supermarket to home if you've overdone it.

Not every time, or that defeats the object ....but don't forget that is an option "in case".

If you've got there... bought everything you expected ... and 1-2 other bits and pieces... then discover that while you were shopping a blizzard started and it's nasty ..... don't just grit your teeth and think "I chose this .... I must endure this." Just call a cab (just the once, because you CAN and you're worth it).

I agree, I am so 'worth it' :D

    Good afternoon everyone,

Still caught up in the fridge/freezer saga..... so today has been interesting to say the least. Put it this way I will never trust my Dad to measure anything again. The space it needs to go in is quite small so not much wiggle room size wise. Unbeknown to me my Dad had measured his old fridge/freezer in inches and then incorrectly converted it to cms why he didn't use the measuring tape with both I don't know or at least give me the inches measurement. He had used 2.84 cms to the inch:eek: and told me his old one was 59.5 cm and there was an inch of space on either side. Anyhow 60 cm wide ordered which of course didn't fit or could have been rammed in but there would have been no ventilation space. So a panicked phone from my Dad first thing ensued with me trying to get my act together to balance enough to get a taxi to his house. The guys took the new one away and gave us a number to call and said not to worry. I have to say AO have been brilliant, I phoned and explained and another one is coming tomorrow. No extra charge for delivering again and they were extremely sympathetic and helpful.:) Needless to say there has been no CFO today just a quick sarnie made late morning.

I'm not CFO tonight - I was going to make pasta bake for me & my son but he managed to have pasta at lunch time (the team works on take turns to bring lunch in for their colleagues most Fridays and today it was pasta salad) so we are having breaded haddock from the freezer with HM wedges and salad.:)

Interesting re the loose fruit/veg, I usually buy packs of veg but apples, pears and bananas loose as I don't get through a pack even if it is dearer. Tesco here do loose "seasonal" potatoes as well as well a loose baking and sweet potato but everyday spuds are only in bags.

Cause of Death: Starvation from Guilt.

I'm starving .... I could/should eat that s0ddin' slow cooker stuff I made yesterday, ate yesterday and ate today .... but I simply don't fancy it. And I "feel bad" about popping out to buy something else instead.

So I'm sitting here all alone and sad and hungry as I'm torn in so many directions ....

And I know that anybody/everybody would tell me "you've done great... go on ... go to the shops" ....

So I'm off to the shops ... not really sure what for to be honest!

    :)
