I wonder if the insurer knows of the existence of the second cyclist, or whether they're going to be informed belatedly when OP sees things not going his way in the case? Or perhaps the second cyclist was invented by the OP to justify him colliding with the cyclist on the other side of the road? If he was going too fast, it would explain why he wasn't able to avoid the bike once it started to turn and eventually hit it in the other lane?

Oh, I can. It's easy. Absurdly easy, even for an idiot, it seams.

They'll get a copy of the police report, so a more accurate account than the one the op has given.

I think a number of posters on here can probably surmise a more accurate account than the one the OP provided! It had so many twists, turns and additions under duress that it ended up quite different to the original description.

So many twists and turns, I wouldn't be surprised if a U turn popped up next.

Oh wait, he's tried that one.

Overtaking one cyclist became overtaking two cyclists.

Colliding with a cyclist then became not colliding with a cyclist.

That's quite different in my book. Perhaps I'm being picky.

And yet somehow ended up going the same way!

Oh and being a real situation, then hypothetical and then not hypothetical.

    Two cyclists... Changes nothing

Not colliding with the cyclist... What have I missed?

    Nothing else then?
